A look at how US crime guns are flooding Toronto.

Borders are as porous as their countries allow them to be.

Sounds like Canada should invest in better border inspection and prosecution of traffickers.

Spending 1/3rd of that story on "Bob", a guy who by all likelihood was a normal joe, and in any case broke no law selling them the gun, was a bit stupid to say the least. Why would they even call him back to tell them that they filmed him? The rest of the story made sense.

Yes, armslist exists and yes in the US in most states you can use it to go by a gun 30 minutes from now, legally, with no background check.

Kanadians go to Atlanta.

Kanadians commit a felony.

Kanadians blame Americans for their own criminals in their own city in their own country committing violence.

What a bunch of morons.

Actually, they aren't morons but they are intellectually dishonest and morally bankrupt.

nothing outrageous, I guess canadians are too used to having a seriuos partner across their borders.
You will simply have to enforce your laws by enhancing border controls.

At least you don't have to deal with waves of illegals and asylum seekers pouring in from every hole (not like the mexicans, these just want to drink beer and smash car windows to buy more beer), and italian or gypsy gangs doing burglary expeditions. Italy doesn't have a hold on the situation.

I'd take gun smuggling over that.

I'd take what the Star says with a grain of salt. They're a left wing, tabloid-style paper. Adopted the practise of yellow journalism a while back to compete with the Sun.

To hear them talk, you'd think the city was turning into the wild west. Somewhat ironically, these are the same type of people opposed to mandatory minimum sentences for gun crime.

Toronto has a very low crime rate for its size. It's not even the most dangerous big city in Canada. That goes to either Vancouver or Saskatoon, depending on who you talk to. Vancouver has major issues with vice crime. Crime in general has decreased significantly after peaking in the 1990s. Only 161 people were murdered in all of Ontario during 2011, in a province of 10 million people. By contrast over 500 people were murdered in Chicago alone last year.

"If there were fewer guns imported, there would be fewer charges for possession of guns"

Really? I am amazed.

All the papers are tainted. I used to put the Star above the rest, but even as a leaning left person, I am seeing the tabloid style stuff more.

National Post is a few steps back of the Sun, Globe & Mail is a corporate shill. CBC has its own agenda, but may actually be the best of the worst, which is sad. Glad I no longer have subscriptions to any of them.

It's a lot worse today I think. Papers are losing subscribers throughout the world, so the journalists have to rely on more and more sensationalist stories and corporate/government shilling to keep their bellies full.

It's pretty tough for most people to realize that even media that matches their political views is full of shit.

If it was that easy the US would have done it on the Rio Grande a long time ago.
And illegals bring much problems with them than mere guns.

Laughing at the word "flooding"

In 2011, Michigan ranked first with 69 crime guns traced to that state. It was the fifth year in a row that the state topped the list. Next came Florida with 56, Ohio with 41 and Georgia with 38

That's a whole 204 US guns found in a year.

Shame on me. I didn't even think about that. I think they did commit a crime--Bob didn't; they did. Although it is legal for a private sale to happen there without a background check I am not sure if it's legal for them to own a firearm. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have passed the NICS due to not being a citizen, permanent resident, or having some other waiver (like there to hunt). If this is so, despite not failing a NICS because they didn't need to pass one, they would have broken the law by purchasing that pistol, irrespective of a background check. Would have been epic if they had been arrested for it.

It actually is a pretty big problem. Gun crime happens in Toronto pretty much as if it was a US city because of how easy it is to get a gun. Lot of random crime like drive bys and such.

Definitely need to be more tight at the border. Then again when I went to the states going in was super easy, they never checked anything, probably helped it was a tour bus. Coming in though, they did a full search on the bus and everything. K9 units, you name it. If anyone had somehow managed to smuggle a gun they most likely would have found it. They did a very thorough search of the bus and all the luggage. We were actually joking about it, saying guess our country does not want us back.

CNN and BBC were able to buy guns just like they did. In case of CNN the buyer didn't even take their names.

It's all relative. There just aren't many gun crimes in Canada...

Yeah, but out of the 300,000,000 guns we have down here, 204 illegally skipped the border.

If only 0.000068% of our guns are being illegally exported north, I think we're doing rather well.
