A little history on the US and Iran

In 1953, the CIA staged a coup to overthrow the democratically-elected president of Iran, Mohammad Mosaddegh, because he wanted to nationalize the oil industry and give the profits to the Iranian people, and US corporate interests weren't having it. So the US installed a puppet dictator, the Shah, then the Iranians rebelled and formed a government that didn't bow down to US interests, so now the US wants to overthrow the Iranian government. Now, don't get me wrong, Iran is a very repressive regime, but that is no grounds to invade them and steal their natural resources. Also, the US sells weapons to Saudi Arabia, a far more brutal and repressive regime which beheads people in the public square, treats women as second-class citizens and is currently doing a genocide in Yemen (which the US is aiding), carpet-bombing and blockading the country, which has led to one of the worst humanitarian crises in decades. So its not about human rights. The US government couldn't give less of a fuck about human rights - It's all about advancing global US dominance and corporate interests.

A minor but important correction: It was British Petroleum that stood to lose if Iran's oil industry was nationalized. British intelligence, working to protect BP's profits, lied to the Americans, convincing them that the elected government of Iran needed to be overthrown.

Updating our history to the present:

Aaaaaaannnndd then Trump shows up, cons his way into the Oval Office, gets Pompeo into position then grabs John Bolton by the mustache and brings him in to the fold.

Presto, change-o, Trump reneges on the Iran deal hoping for a nasty reprisal from them so he can start some shit that diverts from his self-inflicted troubles, commences beating on the 'ol war drums, (who knows why huh?), meanwhile Pompeo and Bolton on cue starts bitching and whining how Iran is a nuclear threat (conveniently excluding how Trump had anything to do with that) hoping that Iran takes the bait.

And here we are, babysitting a spoiled brat man-child in the Oval Office who only listens to Putin for worldly advice and getting himself mentally prepared to get impeached and then saved by the Witch of the Senate McConnell and his army of red flying monkeys.

I've stated our history with Iran here, several times, and you're right. There's a lot more to it and it mostly reflects poorly on us, but it's a good start! :D

Oh man, this is hilarious! It seems that President Trump's appeals to murderous dictators and autocrats (Putin, Kim Jong Un, MBS, Erdogan, Duterte etc.) may have won him a new fan in Iran!

I just can't WAIT to see Hannity flip-flopping on his opinion of this guy:

Can't you just see Trump and his minions rushing to fawn over Ahmadinejad amidst his sweet praise of Trump's business prowess???

To be clear, if Trump can talk his way out of war with Iran and bring an end to 40 years of conflict...more power to him. I would applaud that as a major accomplishment and a huge win for the country. Doesn't mean I have to vote for him though.

Too bad he doesn't know that Trump's supposed business prowess does not, and has never existed.
