Your recollection seems off, Mahrer backed Dole over Clinton in '96.

Isn't Mahrer the one who did Politically Incorrect? Perhaps I have the wrong guy.

He did Politically Incorrect and he voted for Dole.

Got this in the mail from an activist friend. It would be funnier if the joke weren't on us.
Dear President Bush -

Mr. President, this job can't be fun for you any more. There's no more
money to spend--you used up all of that. You can't start another war
because you used up the army. And now, darn the luck, the rest of your
term has become the Bush family nightmare: helping poor people. Listen to
your Mom. The cupboard's bare, the credit cards maxed out. No one's
speaking to you. Mission accomplished.

Now it's time to do what you've always done best: lose interest and walk
away. Like you did with your military service and the oil company and the
baseball team.
It's time. Time to move on and try the next fantasy job.
How about cowboy or space man? Now I know what you're saying: there's so
many other things that you as President could involve yourself in. Please
don't. I know, I know. There's a lot left to do. There's a war with
Venezuela. Eliminating the sales tax on yachts. Turning the space program
over to the church. And Social Security to Fannie Mae. Giving embryos the
vote.

But, Sir, none of that is going to happen now. Why? Because you govern
like Billy Joel drives. You've performed so poorly I'm surprised that you
haven't given yourself a medal. You're a catastrophe that walks like a
man. Herbert Hoover was a sh2tty president, but even he never conceded an
entire city to rising water and snakes.

On your watch, we've lost almost all of our allies, the surplus, four
airliners, two trade centers, a piece of the Pentagon and the City of New
Orleans. Maybe you're just not lucky. I'm not saying you don't love this
country. I'm just wondering how much worse it could be if you were on the
other side.

So, yes, God does speak to you. What he is saying is: "Take a hint."

- Bill Mahrer

He can't even spell his name right (it's Bill Maher) but he's right.

That is him, I'm guessing you just haven't seen much of the show if you think he is a Democract.

Mahre is neither a Rep or Dem - he is a true definition of a Libertarian.

Pro-abortion, pro-death penalty

Originally OK with the war in Iraq, now thinks better of it

Dislikes tax cuts and financial irresponsibility

Anti-special rights (feminism, political correctness, etc.)

Basically, socially liberal enough so that the neo-cons hate him, and not sociall pro-active enough to warm the hearts of most Dems.

FS

And you have to love the post 9/11 quote that got him fired:

"Bush should stop calling the terrorists cowards: WE stand back 2000 miles and lob cruise missles. They drive an airplane right into the building. What ever they are, they are not cowards."

What libertarians hate tax cuts?? Maher also is big on gun control. And libertarians love their guns.

Just cause he's for GC doesn't mean he's not a Libertarian.
He's fine with taxation as long as gov't does with it what its supposed to do.
Govern the country not run pork.
I'm sure you can find things from Dems or Repubs that fit your personal political choice.
I don't all agree with any one party but try to choose the one thats the closest fit.

everyone trashing on the guy for not writing, etc is just being childish about it.
its a joke.
i agree that stewart is better than him but i have always favored east coast comedy to west.
but stop acting like the guy is a no talent "looser" because he doesnt agree with you about your team captain.
grow up.

I think Stewart is more subtle, as has been pointed out above, and is better to watch over the long-term. However, I think Bill M does "mock outrage" much better though, and given the times that rings true quite often.

I also think tha Mahre is more provacative - which can be proven simply by the fact that he has had two shows cancelled because of things he has said on the air.

How can people not like a guy that has the guts to call them the way he sees them?? We need more like him if you ask me.

I don't think guts applies to Maher at all, and have my doubts that he calls them the way he sees them. His career is based off of being on the edge, step back and no paycheck, and I can't imagine the directors voice in his ear is just saying "be yourself". Maher has nerve, but lacks guts, a slimy rodent type that doesn't understand respect and deserves none himself. Someday he will be embraced by the French.

LOL, listen to you. While I can understand his constant criticism of the Republicans and the Dub rubs you and those of your political leaning the wrong way, he doesn't lack guts. If you'd take the time to watch his program you'd have witnessed him going toe to toe with some of the most influential Politicians of both the Right and the Left, sometimes getting his ass handed to him . He's right up there with Hannity and O'Riely when it comes to speaking his mind and confronting those in political power whom he disagrees with. On the other hand, while funnier than Maher, John Stewart usually is a lot softer when he deals with Politician and unlike that borish Dennis Miller he isn't a suck up suck ass who's best days were ten years ago.

he got fired from a job saying what he felt was right to him (remeber his 9/11 comments?.) I doubt you would do the same.

but afterall he is just a media face on the b00b tube. I just think you are wrong in claiming that he is gutless when in fact I think it is just the opposite.

I stick with what I said, he has a lot of nerve, but I see no evidence of guts. Mostly I just have no respect for him, his attacks are just too cheap and too mean spirited. That rude dog puppet looks smart and fair compared to Maher.

"Smart and fair" isn't sticking to what you said about guts. Maher has guts no matterh how much you want to deny it.

Bill can be entertaining, but...

I believe Bill is what you would call a leftwing gatekeeper, that is, he perpetuates the myth that there is a viable difference between the left and right. The thing is, they are all corrupt left to right, top to bottom.

He may not even know he's a leftwing gatekeeper, believing in the false dichotomy himself. Trapped in a lifelong fight between staged opponents; a fight that keeps you all busy while the real politics go on behind the scenes by unelected psychos.

Hey, anyone who can call Ann Coulter their friend surely has something fubar in their head.

The difference between the Dems and Repubs, and this is paraphrasing one of Maher's bits is: Both parties are going to piss on you. But at least the Democrats hand you an umbrella first.

"Leftwing Gatekeeper" = My ass!

I thought the below in the extended aftermath to 9/11, but didn't say it on this forum:
"Bush should stop calling the terrorists cowards: WE stand back 2000 miles and lob cruise missles. They drive an airplane right into the building. What ever they are, they are not cowards."
I didn't type it here because I didn't have the guts. Bill Maher did.

Because of this, he lost his TV show.

Your inability to acknowledge his guts speaks volumes about you. You are blinded by your ideology.

So, even if the TRUTH rears up and bites you on the ass, if it disagrees with your ideological world view, you cannot admit it.

Pathetic. You're pathetic.

And your blind adherence to your ideology, which is after all only a reductionist MODEL of the world, has made you so.

Perknose, the qoute from me a the top of your post, combined with the use of "your" and "you" following that give the impresson that you are addressing me. Surely that was not your intent?
