A guy I know is getting sued..

i was at a bar in december with a gf of mine, not my gf just a girl who is a friend. anyways, when we were walking through the club, some dude grabbed her as$. i let it slide, but i gave him a dirty look. ten minutes later, he then did it again on the dancefloor. this infuriated me because he was disrespecting the both of us by touching her and thrying to punk me. so in response, i punched him, took him down and hit him about five more times. at this point, the bouncers pulled me off.

an hour later, the police arrived at the bar, as well as the paramedics (i knocked out one of his teeth and another one was hanging by a thread). he did not press charges, but the police took down a report.

flashfoward to today, i just got served with a summons by the court. he is suing me in civil court for 15k. eight is for the dental and the rest is for pain and suffering.

so i know i was a dumbass for hitting him, but what the f***? men should not be allowed to get away with that sh*t. i just gave him what he had coming.

Instead of punching him, he could have easily said stop grabbing her ass or she could have filed assault charges.

What a moron that guy is. Why do people have such a poor self-respect for themselves that they'd let a total stranger put them into such a disparging state that they'd attack over this on a dance floor? He should have just left or gotten a bouncer. Sounds like he beat the guy pretty badly, and he shouldn't really be surprised at this.

I say this never having been in that situation, but he clearly did overkill on the beating.

That's from a legal standpoint. From a moral one too bad for your friend because, yeah that guy had what was coming to him. Dumbass (the pincher)! Actually down on the ground plus 5 more punches is even a bit much for a simple ass grab in a bar.

Ding Ding! You got the first part right, but not the second. Was it really necessary to showoff your 'badass' attitude instead of.. say.. telling him to fvckoff (or you could have left)? Someone trying to start something like that in an environment rich with alcohol is a recipie for disaster.

But then, a night of drinking and dancing was more important than that.

A) You don't have proof that he did those things
B) She wasn't *your* g/f, so the Judge probably won't go for the 'protecting her' routine. In fact, the only legal obligation to someone comes when you're married.
C) You could have avoided the problem in the first place by leaving. Why start something when some (probably drunk) guy is asking for it. Seriously.

But but... thats the smart/right thing to do. 😉

Persuade you g/f to press charges of assault against the guy. Maybe he will settle for a much smaller amount.

actions speak louder than words... but in this case... he should've used the lesser of the two. Assault is still assault.

Why did your "friend" punch him? 5 times!!! thats insane!, as other have said, he should have left or got a bouncer. He's screwed, he WILL owe the guy 15k at least.

FWIW- I actually agree with the OP. You grab my wife's ass in front of me, you deserve to get punched. Period.

That said, the smart thing to do would be to get the bouncers to "talk" to the guy and get him tossed out. They'd rather heave a guy to defuse a situation like that than have a fight break out since someone could conceivably sue the club for "not protecting them" or something.

I'll agree with you, but 1 hit should have been enough. Pinning the guy on the dance floor and taking five more shots was excessive. Furthermore, it was not even the guys woman, was just a friend.

Agreed on the first point, disagree on the second point; randomly grabbing some woman's butt in a club warrants a punch. That's just wrong on about 100 levels.

As much as I can understand WANTING to do that, common sense says don't.

There was no danger, they should have just left or got the bouncers to deal with the ass grabber.

Viper GTS

Get another job, you'll be paying for his dental work.
Way to go with the self-control. If it really bothered her she could've done anything up and including slap him. You, on the other hand, had no cause to assualt him. Had he hit her after a slap, there isn't a jury in the world that would convict you for defending her THEN.
A pinch on the butt is not cause to take some one out like that.

Yeah, that's reserved for more serious things.

Sadly, it is very common.

I'm sorry, but even if you win the fight, you can loose in a long run.

Look what happen to Jack White, he kicked that guy's ass, and lost in court.

5 hits is a little bit much..... 1 punch would have been enough. Butt grabbing isn't right but that's not reason enough to knock the guy's teeth out.
