"There is a fast-building meme that Donald Trump’s surprising win on Tuesday reflected a failure of the polls. This is wrong. The story of 2016 is not one of poll failure. It is a story of interpretive failure and a media environment that made it almost taboo to even suggest that Donald Trump had a real chance to win the election."

A good read, I kept noticing throughout the election cycle that the poll results were smaller than the margin of error, but everyone was calling for a Clinton win. I disagree with the author on one point, it wasn't almost taboo to suggest a Trump win, it was taboo, reporters lost their jobs for suggesting it, and for stories that reflected badly on HRC.

I like their poll predictions in BG states and the EC.
They pretty much assumed he was just "one state" away in a real tight race.

I didn't, I thought she'd win, a lot of us did, I was fucking shocked she didn't, I'd just resigned myself to it.

Most liberals don't believe the country to be as racist as it is because conservatives are actually quite right that the liberal media & educator tell of a post-racial society that's hardly the case.

Personally, despite considerable cynicism I didn't foresee that midwesterners would stab democrats in the back after all that was done for them at considerable political expense. This is what results from assuming people are decent; lesson learned.

I mean you saw through the superior people just you like did all those teachers who couldn't see your potential.

Interestingly Trump shared my assessment of the level of racial resentment in this country, and won on that basis where his predecessors couldn't.

As for his supporters, I suspect he also shares similar views of people with the mental wherewithal of this:

Good thing the geniuses** that the Democratic party relied on wasn't enough to steal this election.

** dead people, uneducated illegals, undereducated blacks, moslems, criminal former Miss Universe, etc, etc

To clarify, he can tell them the election is rigged or anything really, and they'd obediently spread whatever they're told even if they win.

Would anyone argue that any of them have the moral composure deny whatever else they're told to do?

I'm a charter member of my Uni's Honor society, my teachers were awesome people.

Does that mean you possess the intellect to see through a simple con man, or chose not to because you're somehow convinced you're in on the con?

Everything is racism for racist posters. Couldn't be that these people are economically broken.
BTW, you're still stuck on Plan B. Hating people does not win their vote.

It means I didn't vote for the candidate that took massive contributions from Saudi Arabia and 9 of the top 10 munitions and arms manufacturers on the planet.

No doubt you've seen what's been posted about the econ stats of his supporters, plus what they did to the people who actually saved their jobs, and chose willful ignorance of all that because, well, why not at this point.

The people doubling down right now are the ones claiming that if only we treated them better they wouldn't have backstabbed the only folks helping them. If you yourself ran into a situation like this in life, what would you do? Personally I'd try to cut losses much as possible.

It means I didn't vote for the candidate that took massive contributions from Saudi Arabia and 9 of the top 10 munitions and arms manufacturers on the planet.

So he managed to convince you he was better than this. Must've been a pretty shitty university or some kind of paperwork fluke if they're admitting the former.

Deny, deny, deny.

The question is still open to the floor, though I doubt there'd be any takers.

Do tell, what ARE the economic stats of those rust belt / coal miner counties that won Trump those critical states?
They're not in big cities, so I'm figuring they're poor and hurting like hell.

plus what they did to the people who actually saved their jobs

Saved? Who the !@#$ saved anyone? The past ~40 years has been the slow march of death for labor.
I need an explanation of what you think they should be grateful for, especially given the current status.

Gallop's rather comprehensive study from a bit earlier on showed his people had on average 70k+ household. The only question is whether you're capable of dropping the myth they're poor as told by that leftist media.

If it weren't the quite contentious auto bailout the democrats had to fight to see through, half the good jobs in that region were chap7 and not exactly coming back. Of course they repaid that act of kindness the same way they repaid their lord jesus christ by voting for the degenerate.

Most moderates of both ideologies and independents know that racism is still an issue however, they don't run around accusing everyone that doesn't agree with them as being racist. Guess it's an educated liberal self hate and/or liberal brain defect issue

Those people are still decent, too bad you hate them for exercising their right to vote for whomever they feel will give them a better shake than the party that ignored them for years even though they voted for that party for decades. Before you can claim it was against their better interests it may be wise to see what is done over the next couple of years.

I'm starting to wonder what agentoof's feelings towards other races really is, that accusation of racist sure rolls off his tongue easily.

My wife is Korean, didn't date white women for years prior to marrying her, my kid is 1/4 Native American. I have a shit ton of black friends, my date to my daughter's wedding was black, some of my best friends are gay.

agent00f, let's see some proof you're not a racist, or a homophobe

Hell, I just looked trough my Facebook photos, the only white people on it are my sisters and mom.

The establishment underestimate of racial resentment is why trump's predecessors kept losing, and why trump lapped the field in the primaries. After all, it was Trump's insistent birthering in the face of McCain and Romney refusal to partake is what put him on the map.

It's funny that the liberal media's portrayal of a post-racial society has so cucked the conservative moment that they've denied their own path to the white house, until an outsider was able to figure it out again.

Do you choose to ignore everything done in obama's time office or did the agitprop just happen to squeeze that out due to insufficient space? Frankly even ardent trumpsters are already making excuses so you can see where that's going if you're allowed to look.

Do honor students in that school manage to graduate without a stats class?

I find it interesting that in the aftermath of analyzing an outcome where an unexpected result occurred, the default reaction is to attempt to quantify and elucidate something that happens when a person enters the very secluded and private environment of a voting booth where no one else in the entire universe can influence a person's judgement, a place where an individual can freely express what their emotions compel them to, devoid of peer pressure that may influence their decision making process.

This outcome should instead be analyzed and understood from a plush couch in a psychiatrist's office.

What people think of various things is actively studied, and racial resentment keeps popping up at top of it all. It really shouldn't be contentious given how much controversy and debate it generates among the choice of topics in this forum. I suppose you can always claim "guess we'll never know", but quite a lot is known.

For someone who is so educated and "smart", you sure are overly clueless.

Hardly interesting someone on the opposing end of the scale thinks this.
