Wow quite and array of games :p well are u sure u can change the directx version for halo? and would it require much effort? i was just wondering.. if it could run at dx8 it should be awesome!! although yea i heard its badly coded so i wouldn't expect much.

Can ne1 reccomend deus EX: invisible war? it looks good but then u never know... , and other games i wanted to know about was cs-condition zero and aquanox 2. ( i remember he getting like 23k on his rig though its a cloudy memory... something along those lines lol )

thnx for your time.

BF1942 if he doesnt want to play single player (AI requies serious CPU power, could only have ~10bots), but if he has broadband and can play multiplayer I think thats the way to go.

Deus Ex 2 is a dog. Bad port. Then again, Halo worked better on my high-end rig after a few patches, so maybe Ion Storm will come through?

Homeworld.

That'll keep him occupied for a little while. Playing against people over the net keeps it really replayable long after the single player missions.

Battlezone 2 if you can find it. The Sierra strategy games (Caesar, Pharoah, yadda) would all run well too.

I'm on my third play through of Call Of Duty (in 4 days). It's not very long (I completed it in ~6 hours, just under I think, on easiest difficulty level, and about the same on the next one up)

Morrowind is quite fun (not sure how well it would run), it's a looooong RPG.

does ne1 know if halo would run properly with the rig stated above? with the resolution on 1024x768 , preferably with some details on..

if not are there any other recommendations? he's into real long rpgs, but anything would do as long as it runs on his pc lol (bf1942 ne good? heard its bad and boring......)
so.. yeah like what the others have said., it wont run properly even on higher end systems

thnx!

i just know i ran my Radeon 9700pro on Halo was still a little jerky,
well, I used 4X aa of course... 6X aa twas just horrible for he game.
CPU - XP 2100+ @ 2.25 Ghz

Halo does NOT support AA or AF.if you enable either of them you will see no image enhancement but a performance loss.

I don't know how halo will run on your system.

I've long been amazed at all the negative comments I have seen with people complaining about how halo runs on their comp.

I thought it looked superb and ran very well on not only mine, but my son's comp as well.

Perhaps the people with the complaints had their AA/AF turned on.

Some budget recommendations:

NFS: PU (edit: unintentional smiley :)) is a great game, and it should be dirt-cheap by now. You can also find it in a racing bundle with Superbike 2001, NFS3, and Nascar 2000 (IIRC), probably for under $15.

I've ben playing the original Deus Ex, and it get choppy on a P3-866 and 9100! I think my CPU is the culprit, so his 1.1GHz Cel may reduce the occasional dips into the teens. Pretty good game so far. You mention DE:IW, though, so maybe your friend has already played the original.

You could also give him Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory on a CD. ;) Great game, but his CPU/vid card may be a tad slow for it (my 64MB 9100 begins to choke at 10x7).

Battlezone was a great game that I wouldn't have discovered had it not been bundled with my Voodoo 2--give it a spin.

If he likes RTS, check out Battle Realms, Warcraft III, and Age of Mythology. The first should be very cheap and is a pretty refreshing spin on the genre; the second and third are obviously big-budget and very well-made, story-driven RTSes. I don't use multiplayer with RTSes at all, so I'm just talking about the single player experience.

it is quite easy to do. Once you install the game. On the shortcut icon on your desktop. Right click it, click properties. where it says target, add the following behind it. -ff (dx7) -11 (dx8) -14(dx8.1) -20(dx9) Whichever you want to run you pick. The 9100 would have trouble running in dx8.1 mode in some maps, but others it would do well.

CZ not out yet, but it runs on the old HL engine, but modified somewhat, so that should run fine.

Yup... CZ uses the old Half Life engine (big disappointment) but it uses higher resolution textures I believe.

lol, well i decided to get him nfs: underground, its not bad, just get frequent slowdowns on 1024 lol, but u put it on 800x600 and its fine (low details of course! road reflection is a GPU hog) and it seems alright.

thnx, i know many ppl made suggestions and i didn't choose them, but just wanted to get somethin kool so i got him underground and he seems pretty happy lmao..

and yes, voodoo's do rule, esp the voodoo 5 6000 , a collectors item! =)
