i was plannin on getting a game for my friends bday prezzie. originally i was gunna get him nfs underground, but it didn't run that good on my duron 1.1 with a ati radeon 9100... which is basically around the same rig he's got.

does ne1 know if halo would run properly with the rig stated above? with the resolution on 1024x768 , preferably with some details on..

if not are there any other recommendations? he's into real long rpgs, but anything would do as long as it runs on his pc lol (bf1942 ne good? heard its bad and boring......)

thnx!

halo will not run well on a system built by GOD.
in other words, no.

you won't be able to play any first person shooters with that kinda rig. well, i mean you can play quake 3, but nothing new.

stop playin around lol, i'm sure my rig could run halo with over 120fps, and the mp aint built by god :p , well my 1.1 also runs sofII with full details on 1024x768 so i'm sure my friends comp will run somethin better than q3. LOL

Don't bother with Halo. It runs poorly even on top system.

Metal of Honor is pretty fun and would be good FPS if your friend has never played it. It's older game so it'll run great on your friend's system.

I've heard good things about Call of Duty but it's new game so I've no idea how it will run on that setup. Same with Star Wars Knights of the Republic game.

Actually, if you can find Need For Speed- Porsche Unleashed, that's a pretty cool game that will run on older systems/video cards. That's the one that's got something called "Evolution", and you start out buying, and racing for money, a 1950 Porsche, then go all the way up to the 2000 model 911 Turbo. I hate to admit it, but I still have it, and still play it fairly often. I saw it at Wal-Mart about 6 months ago for less than $20.

edit: That's means it would be around $10 today, wouldn't it?

Does he like to run around and shoot bad guys?

SOF II:Double Helix ran well on my 9100 (Cel-T 1.33) and it was a very long game.

Very good game... oh yeah, and if you put a space between the colon and the d it won't think you want it to be an emotion =)

I could probably play games for another year or so without an upgrade if I wasn't so spoiled with all the goodies like 4XAA and 8XAF and full detail and still getting more than acceptable frame rates.

Just dont use AA/AF for halo, my 9600 pro does it at 1024X768 at over 60fps all the time at highest settings in campaign, it is even faster in online play. A 9100 would play Quake3, Unreal Tournamet, at highest settings at awesome speeds. a 9100 could also run ut2k3 at highest settings at 1024X768 at a solid 30-40 fps.

BF1942 should be able to play well on his pc shouldnt it?? I reccomend MOHAA as well... good single player game, and the mult is ok. Call of duty is fun (well the demo at least =P) Rogue spear is a fun one, old but good. You said he didnt like RPG's... but War craft 3 is a great game.. good luck

Call of duty, hah. I ran the demo on my machine and all I got was crap fps and jumps and couldn't tell where I was going cause of such lag.

Your best bet is the Half-Life Platinum Pack. Comes with Half-Life the game of year edition plus 2 expansions and counter-strike and you can also download all the mods and have plenty of fun with that. 30 dollars is cheap enough. He will have fun till he explodes.

Homeworld and Homeworld Cataclysm. Then give him Homeworld 2 to make his system beg for mercy.

Give Max Payne 2 a shot. It's a very polished game and should run on a 9100 with some settings turned down.

Medal of Honour for sure... ran like a CHAMP on my T-Bird 1.33 / Ti200

Need for Speed 3 or Porsche Unleashed (great games)

Sim City 3000 - always loved this one

Call of Duty might be able to run reasonable on that PC! it runs fantastic on mine with everything cranked up (no slowdowns)
my rig is an XP2500+ @ 3000+, 9700 Pro, 1gig DDR.

lol, it'd be interesting to see if halo would get a whole 5 fps on that rig. Very very badly coded game..

BF1942 is good. It should probably run ok on his rig.

Max Payne 2 would probably run fairly well. It's short but fun.

Nfs Porsche Unleased is a great game. It kept me busy quite a while and it will run great on his system.

for your information you guys. halo can be set to run in DX7, 8, 8.1, or 9. with a 9000 non pro, in dx7, at 1280X1024, it gets about 160Fps. Run the game in DX7, looks like crap, but runs like quake 3.

Savage is one of my favorite games out right now. its an online game (free to play!) that combines elements of RTS and FPS into one great game. one man on the team is a commander... he plays the game as an RTS, building a base, defenses, upgrading technology, etc... the rest of the team are the shock soldiers and play an FPS game. quite innovative, and terribly fun. S2 games - Savage
there's a free demo available too if you/him want to check it out before you drop the cash on it.

also, it runs beatifully on my computer. 1.5ghz Pentium 4, 512 megs RAM (cheapy sdram), and a Geforce2 GTS 32mb DDR. only one map gives me any lag, and its the same map that lags almost everyone playing the game. (trees + waterfalls = bad, mmmkay)

as for RPG's... hrmm. that genre has really gone downhill since the days of the Super nintendo/sega genesis (pretty graphics are NOT a replacement for gameplay and story line, damnit!). If he's a fan of Dungeons and Dragons at all, check out Baldur's Gate 1 & 2, and Icewind Dale 1 & 2. all of those are pretty good action based RPG's. if he digs D&D, they're a good bet. BG 1 & 2 could probably be found packaged together for fairly cheap as they're a couple of years old.

hope that helps. g'luck finding the right gift!
