I'm looking for a flat 19". I'm going to run it at 1600x1200, i'm going to pair it up with my Sony G200 at 1152x862. I think Sonys are totally overrated. My sisters envision looks better than my G200. But the 19" envisions seem pretty ugly at compusa, i've looked at 3 of them, and their colors didn't seem nearly as good as my sisters one upstairs (man everytime i look at it, i'm like wow, the colors!). The viewsonics seem not bad, but i keep hearing problems with blurryness. I look at some Samsung 753DF all the time at school, and they make my eyes hurt. How much better are high end Samsungs?

for $400 you can get a 17" LCD.

Or a really nice 19" CRT. Get a hitachi (any), samsung 957, compaq p910(very nice), or a non-flat sony.

You can even get a refurb 21" non-flat sony, or diamondtron for $400. I would prefer diamondtron, btw

I see a 19" Samsung at pricewatch for $170 shipped. other brand monitors in around that pricerange too. and a KDS 19" flat for $178. I don't see why you would need to spend anywhere near $400 for a flat screen 19". Maybe for a very high quality one I guess. Just seems high. I saw the 19" KDS flat CRT at Office Depot for $200 and it wasn't even on sale.

I wouldn't buy a monitor online. They are fragile instruments and tend to get damaged when not transported on pallets. Their weight combined wih their fragility (is that a word) is what makes them more vulnerable than other components. I bought my Sony G400 from amazon.com and had to get 2 replacements before I got a fully functional monitor. Seeing the way Fedex and UPS handles packages I sure wouldnt trust $400 in their hands. I would spend $50-100 more and get one from a local store. Just my 2 cents.

Local stores tend to have a small selection.

Your probably right about avoiding buting a monitor online. The last one I bought was from online and I had to send it back. Luckyly emscomputing let me switch brands on the replacement and I got one I liked better anyway. Check out the 19" KDS for $200 at Office Depot if you have any in your area. For a better quality the Hitachi's are nice. The Hitachi 721F has a flat face to reduce glare. Hitach 721F These are going for around $280 at pricewatch.

I like the NEC FE991SB. I think the SuperBright button is a nice touch. I'd pick one up if I thought I deserved it. :)

I'd hate to see prices on monitors in Hawaii, though. :Q

I like my Viewsonic P95f. It's 19", can do 1920x1440, and can also do 1600x1200 at 85Hz.

I like it.

I've purchased about a dozen monitors online in the past few years and had most of them shipped to me overseas. Only one showed up damaged in transit. If you can find a deal I'd go with an IIyama. If not, a Hitachi or a Mitsubishi.

i'm not really worried about the price. Since monitors usually last so long, and you pretty much stare at it all day, i want to go for the best i can get. I can get a Sony G410 for about $330, but they are by no means the absolute best monitor our there.

Well, i live in Hawaii, and its hard to go and acctually look at a monitor. But since i have a compusa business account, i can order any monitor from the www.compusabusiness.com website (they have almost every monitor, the regular compusa site has very little) with FREE shipping. They have a pretty bad search function, so its really hard to weed through what monitors they have, so specific model #s really help! Since i have a sony, thats what i'm guaging with, something better than sony. They have great refresh rates, yes, but their color isn't as good as some (same with their digicams). Right now i'm looking at Hitachi and NEC monitors, but can't really come with specific model #s. Thanks a bunch for the input!

I have the KDS Xflat 19 inch got it for 196 out the door at office depot. I am still considering whether tokeep it or not

The good:

Sharp picture, clear text, reasonable high refresh rates (manual says 65 hz at 120x1600, but drivers put it at 75)

I run it at 1024x786.... anything higher I find text to be too small after a short time and my eyes hurt. The refresh rate at 1024 is 100hz.. pretty nice.

It is very bright, and contrast is great

the bad:

It is wobbly, very wobbly.

It has slight geometry problems (although I went to BB and it looks like ALL monitors have slight geometry problems. Even the sony's I have looked at)

so tell me.... is there any monitor that the picture fits the tube perfectly?

I am also really interested in this thread. I only want to spend about 250 max but I would even considder a very high quality 17 inch rather than a mediocre 19....

continue the discusion please :)

I own the NEC FE991SB, so I can vouch for its high quality. I was lucky and got one through hot deals for 225 awhile back, but I would say the monitor is worth much more. It has a great image and the Superbright function is great for games/movies.

I've purchased 2 monitors online (including the monitor mentioned above). I haven't had a single problem. Besides, if you look around you can get them much cheaper online.

sony e440b

seriously considering this monitor, it looks top notch.. any opinions?
Nice specs, nice price ($315 free shipping)

If it weren't a Trinitron, I would have advised to go for it.

I've never used the Sony e440, so I cannot directly compare the two. Judging it completely on its own, I can say it has a great image. Monitor clarity is somewhat subjective, but I would be very surprised if you were dissapointed with the FE991SB.
