seriously considering this monitor, it looks top notch.. any opinions?
Nice specs, nice price ($315 free shipping)

If it weren't a Trinitron, I would have advised to go for it.

You have issues with trinitrons?

Some people don't care for them. But I love them.

Tom's Hardware Guide has a roundup of twelve different 19" CRT monitors. I would suggest taking a look at the review. It is detailed enough to at least help you eliminate some monitors from the palette. Also, it really helps to take a look at some of the monitors for yourself if you get the chance.

Samsung 900NF is a good choice.

Just be sure wherever you purchase it from online that the retailer has a very 'fair' RMA/return policy. Even if it means spending a few more greens.

Good luck!

I'd hate to see prices on monitors in Hawaii, though. :Q

Thats really expensive for a shadow mask

Its aperature grill.

I see that now... what do you think about its quality compared to the sony e440?

I've never used the Sony e440, so I cannot directly compare the two. Judging it completely on its own, I can say it has a great image. Monitor clarity is somewhat subjective, but I would be very surprised if you were dissapointed with the FE991SB.

Hmmmm cant decide betwen this and the sony.

I think im going to go witht he sony since it is a true trinitron... (which I really like) and it is black.

If you go with sony, don't go with anything less the the "G" series, as the others are crap for their price, in fact, they are just crap. The A440 is pretty close to G series, but doesn't have as high refresh rates.

compusabusiness doesn't seem to have iiyama monitors, too bad, since they sound really good. The Viewsonic P95F sound really nice, i can get it for about $260 shipped. There is also the P90F for $280, which seems to have a finer dot pitch, but slightly "slower". I can get the NEC 991 for $260 also. The Sony G410 is $330, so i'm probably dropping that from the picture.

I dont know if that is always true, although the G series is good. What is the Dell P991 based on?

I still think the E440 looks good, but it is new, and there arent any reviews out there for it yet.

Anyway, for the price of monitors like the E440 or the newer A440 I definitley wouldnt call the crap. I dont care much for the viewsonics or samsungs (after looking at a few models in store) Although honestly I never find many samsungs around.

Its tough to judge quality when you dont have anywhere to go to actually look at a monitor! :)

I would spend $50-100 more and get one from a local store. Just my 2 cents.

How do you think local stores get their monitors in the showroom? First they ship them by truck in the same method as if you were buying online, but you don't have to go through the middleman and pay the extra charges. ;)

The Dell monitor you speak of is based on the Sony Trinitron CPD-G420 (s) tube, so it's a good screen at a lower price than the one with "Sony" written on the face of the case.

If I were to go out and buy a new 19" aperature grill monitor right now, it would have to be the Samsung 900NF, which is a bit older model now, but still one of the best for picture and it's a natural flat screen.

DELL always has the best price for SONY G420S, they always give 20% off and some other coupon, it can make the G420S as low as $320 with free shipping.

No, all aperture grill monitors are not natural flat. Some may appear flat, but have slightly curved sides. A natural flat has flat center as well as sides.

When I was looking at the Dell monitors on their site, I was concerned with a P1110 (like a cpd-520), and a D1626, which was cheaper, but has slightly curved edges, so I went with the P1110.

I would say that the 900NF is very comparable to the G420, but probably has a bit nicer look. If I had to choose between the two, I would go with the Samsung 900NF. I don't know what the e440 is like so I can not comment on this monitor.

I wish someone had some experience with the E440

I cant seem to find any good place online for monitor reviews

The Sony E series are crap. They are far inferior to G series and most other monitors out there. My cousin has one and i see it a lot. I really want nice vibrant colors. How do the colors compare with the G420 and Samsung? So far i use this to guage my colors.FF Wall

So far i found the the Envision 17" non flat totall outshines everything, all colors "lash out" text is obviosly not as sharp(on a creative Geforce 2)

My Sony G200 is ok, but washed out compred to envision, everytime i look at teh envision, my sony seems to die :p (on Gainward Geforce 4 ti4600)

Samsung 753DF has ok text, but colors can't even compare to sony, the two blues are very hard to distinguish, red is kinda dim and pinkish, i have two of them here in clubroom, they are pretty much identical (on Radeon 8500 and 7500)

Samsung 700c (something like that) is pretty close to the one on top, but less sharp text (had this a while ago, got rid of it last week)

Sony E400 i would say colors are even worst than samsung, text is only so-so, definetly what i thought a sony would be.

I'm going to go monitor hunting at whatever local shops we have to see what else i can compare.

For a pretty damn nice review, cheeck out Cadalyst, these guys have review quiet a bit of monitors and are CAD guys, so i would think they have pertty good qulifications compare to THG :p Good chart for specs also.

after looking around today I have to agree. Unless your willing to paly at least 400$ for a g series sony, you might as well forget. The stylepro series is absolute junk.

Right now im using a Princeton ultra 72 17inch and the color and brightness are much superior to any of the sony I have seen in the stores including the a and e series....

It also slaps down the KDS XF-9b that I had, and returned... at this point I dont know what to do.. none of the stores have good monitors to look at andI dont want to order somthing ive never seen and catn return without taking a bath on shipping....

I might consider taking a leap and getting the viewsonic p95f+ but im just not sure..

maybe ill jus stick with my princeton. I thought it wasn't a very good monitor but now that ive looked, every thing else out there looks like total junk
