What car is that in your sig? You'll chase a vet like a special olympian chases marian jones.

Obviously if you can't identify what kind of car it is... how would you know if it could chase a Vette? I'm not talking flat out beating a Vette. I'm looking at hopefully 13.5 @ 10psi.

No... You'll be looking at destroying a poorly crafted, poorly engineered econobox.

As far as your autocrossing.... You can't go as fast as other cars in a straight line, so you say "Autocross!" That's based on handling, right? If you'll look behind your center console, in the floor of the backseat, you'll notice it's pretty much flat. There's no hump, or tunnel. Serious problem for handling.

Well you see she could be right... if her "friend" didnt know how to drive a manual z06, then of course, even a 3 cylinder metro can beat it.

I'll be safe with pushing 10psi on the motor. We're not talking about your average econobox motor. A lot of time and consideration has been put into how this is going onto the motor. Wide-band O2s don't lie either when it comes to tuning.

I think you should find out what your local region is for SCCA. Get off your computer and check out a Solo 2 event. I know for the region that I race in, there's a good chunk of FWD cars. I think you'd be pretty surprised at what does what. I like how you judge a car by how fast it is in a straight line. Keep judging cars by their magazine reviews and everything will be alright.

Red 240Z with swapped in V8. Quite a few of them running around considering the car is 25+ years old. And they're QUICK. No smog in CA, too.

Yup, that's what her friend's mom drives. They swap cars on the weekend. Throughout this point I'm trying not to laugh.

I tell her that hopefully after my car gets turboed and I swap cams, I should be chasing Vettes (read not beating). She goes on to say how it won't be a problem for me to beat them because her boyfriend has a 350Z with an intake that beats her "friend's" Z06. She says the Z06 is so heavy and it only has top end. This girl really needs to quit dying her hair black (she really does dye it) and let her natural blonde show since it's so obvious.

350Z "Performance" hatchback = 3,217 lbs., 287 HP at the crank
Z06 Corvette hardtop = 3,118 lbs., 405 HP at the crank (LS6 powered bitches!)

I'll bitch slap the first person that dares to be serious about a 350Z beating a Z06, both in stock form, any day of the week.

By "intake" she meant "afterburner." And by "Z06" she meant "Mustang" :)

Really? Thats why GM is going to offer a supercharged variant motor in the Cobalt, Solstice (and all its clones) right?

The Ecotec is suprising stout for a econobox motor.

No, I understand that some cars are fast in straight lines, and some handle well. A Cavalier does neither.

And my problem isn't with the Ecotec engine, it's capable of great things, as can be seen in the Vauxhall VX220 and the Opel Speedster (GM European roadsters.) Those cars rival the Lotus Elise. My problem is with... everything else that is a Cavalier. Front wheel drive, the transmission, the suspension... Bleh.

I think you also need to realize that the best handling car is nothing without a good driver. Whereas the Cavalier doesn't have the best suspension setup in the world, it holds its own for the market it's in. If you ever feel bored and want to see exactly how good the GM FE2 suspension is, do a search on Sean Foster. I think you'd be surprised on how many titles he's taken with his 99 Z24 Cavalier with his only two suspension mods being a rear sway bar and race tires.

I understand your beef isn't with the Ecotec. Considering you did also forget that the Ecotec is put in the Holden Astra, it is widely spread around the globe. Your beef is with the Cavalier itself. If you honestly want to talk trash about the car, do a little research on it first. I'm sure there's plenty of people in Texas who would make you change your mind about the car and we're not talking the fools who put Altezzas and a coffee can on their car and call it modded. You probably consider any Cavalier in regards to the base model, not the Z24. I hate to say you can't compare the two, but I am since it's a night and day difference.

So uh... humor me... what do you drive? If you lived closer, I'd offer up a ride in my car for autocross or maybe even a challenge if you'd be willing to accept.

LInk click on Maxima video

So I sucked at it and didn't do good and a stock Cavalier Z24 on r-compounds whooped my ass (and everyone else's too).

In that particular event, a Mustang posted FTD.

<I know I didn't flame you but hey...I went auto-x and I loved it!>

EDIT: read the rest of the thread....let me add my experience with Cavaliers.

First off, I think they are crappy cars and can't see a reason to buy them. That said, they do handle well.

And another auto-x event I went to, the same Cavalier Z24 on only r-compounds won its class? Who was in its class you say? ITRs, WRX, mutlitudes of Civics, etc.... Yes, that Z24 beat WRXs and Integras.

It helps that the driver was a performance driving instructor who could HAUL ASS!
