A Flat Tire on the Way to Work...

And then a flat donut as I turn into the parking lot of the tire place.

What the fucking fuck.

Fuck.!!!!111oneoneone.

Now I'm stuck in the waiting room. I'd rub one out but the finely dressed guy who brought his BMW in next to me might stare. The fat guy on the other side of me with the beard might enjoy it. So, rubbing one out is now out of the question.

Fuck again!

That is all.

Hopefully the puncture is in the sidewall and that you'll need a whole new suspension and alignment after this!

That happened to me a couple of weeks ago but fortunately, it was on a weekend. I pulled out of my garage and the tire was completely flat. I put the donut on it and got a little way down the road and I started hearing weird noises (like a low tire) and my brake warning lights came on, etc. I SLOWLY drove it to the gas station about a mile away, aired it up, and then went over to Wal Mart and got a new tire.

You were going to jerk off in the waiting area?

Whatever.

weak rant but the number of fvcks makes it worth reading. The literature was weak too, seemed almost like a parody thread.

Bad struts caused the ridiculous wear. I will be leaving here with 2 new tires, new struts in the front and back, new front breaks, and an alignment. All at the low cost of $1100.00

Happy Friday!

I should've just stayed home and rubbed one out.

Though I am glad the tire went out about a mile away from the tire store on a road I was only doing 30 on. After the tire store I hit the highway for work and wouldve been going 80. Wouldnt have been fun to blow a front tire doing 80.

Aww crap dude I. Was just kidding about the new tires, suspesion and alignment. Sorry to here that, but I think $1100 is not bad for all that

It is what it is. What can ya do? I knew I needed the alignment, but wasnt expecting the struts.

At least it'll be fixed now.

word.

I blew one out going 75 a few years ago. It was surprisingly easy to steer (this was left-front tire on a Corolla). But what'd you break on the front?

Indy, tires have nothing at all to do with the brake warning light. Only possibility is if your fluid was low already, running on a donut could change the angle of your car enough that the sensor in the reservoir would activate.

My front passenger side was the one that blew. The alignment was bad, coupled with really bad struts caused the wear on the inside edge of the tire. Wore it down to the point that the tire blew. The donut going flat was a fluke. The brakes were done since they needed it and I'm already here. The rear struts weren't as bad as the front, but still needed to be replaced.

It was an ABS warning light. It went away once the tire was aired up -- I think your description of the reservoir being at an angle is what happened.

2 tires, front/rear struts, front brakes, alignment, depending on the make/model of your vehicle, $1100 sounds about right, even if your car was under warranty, these parts are considered wear/tear.

I don't change flats. I carry a plug kit and cans of Fix A Flat. Then let the tire shop deal with it.

I got new rear shocks yesterday. Kind of pissed me off. The garage where we have been going for years marked up the shocks to almost double the Amazon price. Didn't know that until I got home. It's been almost 20 years since I'd bought truck shocks so I figured that what they were charging must be the going rate as this garage had always dealt fairly in the past. Now I have to decide whether to keep going there. They have good mechanics and good ones are very hard to find around here.

Couldnt fix it. Alignment and struts were so bad it caused the tire to wear to the metal on the inside edge.

That probably isn't bad struts, just way out of alignment. If you had been rotating your tires every three months you would know that. Struts are expensive and labor intensive thus profitable for the tire shop.

To solve every one of your problems I do the following:

1. Have a plug kit and a cheap 12V inflator.
2. Carry a can of fix a flat as more insurance in case the plugs aren't quite doing it.
3. Ensure my spare is up to snuff, but if I forget and its toast, usually 1 will fix it well enough to get off the road.
4. Buy tires at Firestone with the road hazard warranty.
5. Purchase the "lifetime alignment" at the Firestone.

Not plugging Firestone, but that road hazard has gotten me a total of 3 new tires for less than $10 on 2 different cars. The combo there also lets you go into the store and have THEM rotate your tires AND put it on the alignment machine as often as you like. I do it quarterly. No Mo Tire Problems.

Your tires and your brakes are the 2 things on your car that keep you from dying most. Spend on them.

What makes them think the struts are bad other than being out of alignment? (Inside edge wear doesn't automatically mean "bad struts" btw). I'd see if they can align it the way it is - and drive it for a bit and return to check the alignment before buying 2 whole brand new struts. See if the strut is actually bad, the alignment will jump all over the place, but a lot of places will just get you for struts before even looking.

Amazon prices are the shops prices essentially. Why would you want to help put a good mechanic out of business? They mark it up in order to put food on their table you know. The price you pay is for convenience. You can always order the part yourself and try to put it on :x
