In 2000, the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported that 25 breeds of dogs were involved in 238 fatal dog bites from 1979-1998. More than 50% of the deaths for which the breed was known were caused by Pit Bull type dogs and Rottweilers.*
Rottweilers and Pit Bulls were involved in 60 percent of the 27 dog bite fatalities that occurred in 1997 and 1998. Rottweilers were involved in 10 deaths, and Pit Bulls were involved in 6.
In 1997 and 1998, at least 27 people died as a result of dog bite attacks (18 in 1997, and 9 in 1998). Of these, 19 were young children between zero and 11 years of age, and 8 were older children and adults between 17 and 87 years of age.

Wow...238 fatal dog bites in almost 20 years...NATIONWIDE?! Do you realize how many pit bulls there are out there? As someone else said, when they decide to attack, rotties and pit bulls have much more chance of making it deadly because of how much power they have. That really doesn't mean that they are as a whole a bad breed. I mean, look at you r stats...6 fatal pit bull attacks in two years...SIX. How many pit bulls do you think there are in relation to how many commited a fatal attack?
So, we are to write off all PB's in the country because 6 of them killed people? Dogs are like anything...some are agressive, and some are not.
Feel free to buy into all the hype though....
Oh, and nice link from "dog bite legal center"....

I agree.. Who fvcking cares about 6 people. I bet more than 6 people died from trying to open a can of peanut butter, while standing on a wet slippery floor, under a clean load of silverwear sitting in the dishwasher tray, and falling head-first into the silverwear.. and then being shot by a thief robbing their house.

This is one of the saddes things I have read in as long as I can remember. I swear to God that if I were not so far away I would come and get that gorgeous dog, despite a houseful of cats. But there is like 1,000 miles distance or something... dunno. Way to far to drive to get her.
what a gorgeous dog. what loving and trusting eyes. if you are meant to keep that dog, things will fall into place. in the meanwhile, please tell me what county you are in and i will do a web search for no kill alternatives.

Gainesville Pet Rescue would be our best bet, I think. We'll have to check & see if they take all breeds.
If we had more room, I'd consider crating her and driving her to NJ for ya..we'll be going through there on our way to NH..but six persons' worth of stuff and a single 5x10 trailer doesn't leave much room.![]()
