A different shootout ATI vs NVidia (open minds!)

So, if more games follow the design and graphics implementations of F.E.A.R., FarCry, and SplinterCell, then ATi is the card for the future. If they mimic Quake 4 and SS II, then nVidia has the lead.

So, with an "open mind," I'd say ATi's top-of-line has the current advantage.

Bah, give me 7800gtx performance for $200 and then I'll talk about which company I like better ;)

Unfortunately I could care less about the high end market...its getting too deep for my shallow pockets :(

Nice chart otherwise, props to MikeC for taking the time to do this.

43 red bits
38 green bits
2 draws

I'm gonna make a chart that includes these sites (just a little bit more technical knowledge than the others): ;)

http://www.hardware.fr/articles/605-1/r...xtx-x1900-xt-x1900-crossfire-test.html

the sites dont take into account driver versions and other quirks.

The best reviews will be when some sites test individual hardware with better drivers. E.g some site reviews a HIS product and has a GTX512 in the review with the 6.2 drivers. that is when we should all start listening more carefully. I think Firing squad made a very very valid point when they said that this was a preview.

maybe more ATi biased? i think so, u love them then they're biased

No, ya newb. The kind of sites that have a much higher reputation among the people that actually know something about the hardware.

It's been well documented that France and Germany love Canada because of their excellent moose jerky, which in Germany is second in popularity only to the David Hasselhoff pastries.

Interesting chart, although I don't know why benchmarks without AA are given as much emphasis as benchmarks with it. I mean really, who pays $500 for a card and doesn't use AA. That's like doing an exotic car shootout and than giving gas mileage as much emphasis as track times.:disgust:

Ha, ha, ha Monkey looking for benchmarks that favor your cause. Why not Hardocp? they were not on the chart either. If you only want benchmarks that make the x1900 look good then why even look at benchmarks, your mind is already made up.

No, I'm looking for benchmarks not made by ignorant retards FOR ignorant retards.

Why dont YOU try and fit those benches in there? Let's see how comparing apples to oranges can be summarized on a chart...

I want benchmarks made by people who know how to make a valid benchmark. You can just keep your head burried in the sand and counting up the green dots vs. the red dots.

Hey, fanboi... since you're such a wiseguy, why dont you explain to us why one site shows NV winning in AOE3 period, and 2 other sites show it wining without HDR and losing with HDR?

How about the more important things besides just raw FPS?

Power consumption on the x1900's is ridiculous for one.

ATI has better DVD De-interlacing with AVIVO, and also has hardware accelerated H.264.

nVidia has better drivers, with a less clumsy interface, IMHO. Not a fan of the CCC.

There are too much factors to be summarized in one chart. Looking at the reviews, the x1900xtx has the highest power consumtion under load, runs hot, and the stock cooler is also louder than the gtx512. And I absolutely hate CCC. But that's the general trend in high end cards, and something to be considered for anyone planning to buy one of these cards.

Good chart but it just screams to me how rubbish Reviews have gotten. They need to benchmark more titles to fill in those gaps which are unsightly. Perhaps they should bench the top 2-3 in each category (FPS, MMO, RTS etc). It's time for a uniform benchmark games list for sites to use.

Maybe as a baseline? Or for the online guys who want the 100fps minimums?

But why do you need 100fps?
From what I gather you cant really tell viscerally once it reaches 60+.
I personally would much rather have AA then an extra 20 or so fps to get me that 100 mark.

Then again, running games at 1920x1200. You dont really need AA.

I'm not one of those guys, so you'd have to ask them. I've heard the online athletes play at low res, no aa no af for highest fps. (I could be wrng though, just what I've read)

Resolution does reduce the need for AA.

I dont think you realize what other implications such a move would have. The best way to ensure the validity of these benches is to keep every review site independent of every other review site. The holes will just have to be filled in by looking at more reviews, maybe even some sites outside of the common crop of sites usually mentioned around here.

Well monkee until ATI starts putting internal benchmarks on their front page you will never be happy. And apparently it would have to be in French or German. Maybe you could run your own benchmarks since you are teh smart minky.
