total conversion to a new language takes time, and whenever there is a significant population of foriegn speakers it will SEEM like their progress to "english" takes time, but rest assured you ethnocentrics, most languages in the US die out with selective pressures --- children of immigrants have little iniative to retain their traditional languages, and this only gets worse with successive generations
after all, you poster who claim european ancestry, how many know the language of your OWN roots
We're typin in it. Granted, I cant do the accents the Irish use, and I dont have the proper usage as the British do.
whoa wait a friggin minute,
didn't you say you were mostly german? and and previously asked whether Sprechensie deutsch?
I am mostly German. And a mix of other cultures. *I'M* a cultural mixing pot.
But I'm also American. I dont fly the German flag, I dont speak German, I dont drink like the Irish and I dont speak like the British. (My great gandmother was 100% German as an FYI, so I'm mainly German)
I'm American. I know my roots, I'm proud of them but *I* am American.
you know what, thats wonderful
but you're objecting to mexicans showing their national pride here, let me ask -- when your 100% grandfather emmigrated here as an adult (and just for the sake of arguement lets say he did) you would have prevent HIM from showcasing pride of his german heritage?
im adding also that you really don't have to worry about mexican national pride so much -- the displays you complain about are more from first or second generations who are still in transition from their native cultures -- there wasnt world wars, mass paranoia and racism which existed during much of the most recent european influx that FORCED rapid disintegration of their old world identities
I for one believe thats a good thing
