I read this thinking.....man, there are a lot of people that are buying into the hate-filled rhetoric that is being spewed around.
Let's look at things objectively. What is the ideal solution? Round them all up, make them felons and then deport them and build a fence? If you take the knee-jerk reaction (ie....what you are being sold by a lot of the GOP, Rush, Hannity, et al) hell yeah!! What does that approach gain you? A feeling of satisfaction knowing that you saved the country upwards of $1B/yr in possible welfare, healthcare, education and other social service payments? What did you COST you? Probably a lot more per person when the cost of business goes up for a lot of industries. Then the cost of the products go up as well. We complain enough about the price of gas, now let's throw vegetables, fruit, poultry, meat, dairy, housing and everything else that is being kept at a somewhat reasonable rate because companies can pay these PEOPLE less per hour.
It's already been shown that the price of groceries would not be affected much at all because the wage of the worker harvesting the food factors so little into the overall price.
Try to grasp one simple concept, they have entered this country (under most circumstances) to do one thing, to make a better life for themselves and their family. These are not the run of the mill "criminal". They are certainly guilty of entering the country illegally, but they are probably better models to follow than a lot of the native born citizens. They work hard, live normal lives and are not engaging in any criminal activity (other than their entrance choice) and they are active in the political process which is a whole lot more than most on this board can say.
So they've already broken one law to enter the country. And once here they break more laws like if they drive a car (driving uninsured is against the law in many states) and break other laws to create fradulent documents so they can work or collect some benefits. Where does 'breaking laws merely to improve their lives' end and where does 'just breaking laws' begin?
It is very easy to be a keyboard macho man and sit and talk about what you would do. It is a whole other level of bravery when you are willing to put you life as you know it on the line for something that you believe in. These people are doing just that. They know that they can be "rounded up" and deported, but they are willing to risk that for the ideals that they are sold by our country. That, if you come here and live a good life and work hard, you can experience the "American dream". The one thing that the majority of us take for granted just about every day of our lives.
The American Dream is lived by countless immigrants every day. Don't confuse illegal immigrants with legal immigrants, it's something the pro-illegals are trying furiously hard to do, to blur the line and make people think they are one in the same.
The problem isn't "Illegal aliens", the problem is that we have become accustomed to certain expectations as consumers. And with those expectations come the reality that companies will not pay union wages because they will not be able to keep the prices down. That means loss of market share and possible loss of the business. We are being completely hypocritical by claiming that we don't want to pay higher costs for anything, but we also don't want to work for the wages that it takes to be able to keep costs at where they are. If you really want to end illegal immigration, take a lesson from what it takes to be an American from these people and be willing to make a sacrifice for what you believe, tell the corporations that you are willing to pay 50-100% more for their products so that they can afford to hire Americans like you to produce the goods.
The sad thing is this is the greed of some corporations. Lower prices goes more towards increasing their profit margins then to allow people to buy more
