Meanwhile, the Seller is strutting around bragging to his friends how he dumped that POS Chainsaw on some poor chump for $30!

Win-win!!

For some reason, planned obsolescence causes me to "rage" more than it probably should.

"We warrant this product for 1 year because advanced statistical analysis of typical customer usage patterns, coupled with advances in materials science means that it is almost certain to fail within 1 week beyond 1 year of service."
Gone are the days of long warranty periods, or of expecting thing to last a long time beyond the expiration of the warranty period.

Though I'd love if there was a good way of analyzing the costs to society from using stuff that is a bit more expensive and lasts a long time vs constantly re-buying cheap crap that breaks quickly.

No kidding. I've claimed ownership of my grandfather's old Craftsman table saw from the 1950's. Heavy cast iron, 1HP 110/220v motor and built like a tank. You could crash a truck into it and the truck would be totaled. It's been sitting in his garage for years so it needs some clean up, but with a little work I'm sure it will run just fine. Looking at table saws that are on the market today, complete junk. They all look like they're built to fall apart after a year or so. And to think, my uncle wanted to throw it out. Glad I snagged it.

Well, after sitting in the shed all winter I decided to test my luck. Fired the chain saw right up without a single issue. I'm convinced the dude didn't know how to start it and keep it maintained. Glad I decided to take the trip to grab it!!
