First and foremost, *please* do not take any of this as an individual criticism. The following is a general statement about all of us, NOT one person, and everything I'm about to say applies equally to myself as well as everyone else...
I think it's hilarious how we (meaning people in general as well as our AnandTech community) go to such great lengths to show our individualism - from pierced eyebrows, and creative hair styles, to personalized license plates and neon colored cell phones. We criticize, both directly and indirectly, the establishment; we scoff at pop stars from Michael Jackson to Britney Spears (yet why do so many of their albums sell?). We ride the latest 'alternative' band until too many people like them, then we label them 'sellouts' and jump to the next one that the music industry feeds us.
We are SHEEP. It's hilarious! I've done it, you've done it, we've all done it. The quintessential sheep herd was when an asian member here, trying to fit in, mis-used the expression "sucks", and said "____ is suck!". Now it's the most common phrase at AT...until now.
I wonder why the new "all your base" line is so funny. Is it because we can all picture the little Japanese programmer who thinks he's writing correct English? I don't know. I have to admit, this never really made me crack up - but plenty of "pop phrases" have, including "wazzzzup!" We're all sheep, and those of us who try the hardest to be individuals often end up being the most silly (I still remember my college days, when virtually all of the REM fans wore the exact same hair style in their statement of 'individuality'...lol. Eventually, I became an REM fan, and they moved on to something else). I remember when Vanilla Ice was the scorn of the country...and now you see little white kids who haven't met 10 black people in their lives, being 'gangstas'. LMAO.
Oh well - just enjoy it. If you don't like this craze, don't criticize them too much - pretty soon you'll be the one quoting the next Budweiser commercial, wondering why your neighbors "just don't get it"...
