To dna,

Who in the last words concedes "it will never happen."

Now, riddle me this---what will happen if natural events take their course?---what will the next 58 years look like?

I don't know, but if the past is any indication, then you'll probably still have refugee camps in Lebanon & Syria, filled with people who are less than third-class citizens, living in tents, while the host countries will continue bitching & moaning about the poor refugees.

Anyway, we've hijacked this thread enough, so I'll wrap up with this: you can't have an amicable agreement (or peace for that mater) with someone who hates you, wants to kill you, and that passes on the ideology of hate to their children. You'll probably need at least 10 years without hate propaganda to diffuse the situation, so you'd be able to approach it in a normal fashion.

Back to the original topic -- to me it looks was Pacepa was correct in assesing that the Russians are back to their old games, trying to spread their influence around there world yet again. They are still denying that any of their advanced weapon systems have reached Hezbollah, to absolve them from any responsibility.

That was then and this is now---and the levels of hatred has risen---what is it going to take to get a deal?---short of simply ceasing to exist----your bargaining position now is better than its likely to be in future.

The right of return or compensation for the refugees was indeed offered to Mr. Arafat, along with East Jerusalem for his capital. When given a chance to respond to those terms (which already amounted to 90% of what Palestine has claimed to want), he rejected it out of hand and refused to even suggest modifications. Which of course proved that he was never really interested in peace in the first place, as long as it meant Israel would still exist thereafter.

Yes, that was then, blah blah blah, but at least get it right. Palestine was NEVER offered a better deal, and they probably never will be again. They chose perpetual war, because they are brainwashed and kept ignorant by their "leaders" against their own best interests.

Somewhat of a point Buck Armstrong,

Something for historians to ponder the what if Arafat had taken the deal----the undisputed and unchangable history is that Arafat said no---and now both Arafat and Fatah are
no longer players---and it is yet to be seen if Hamas may or may not be more ameanable to a deal involving less tha the destruction of the State of Israel.

But any who hopes for anything less than a military solution realises opening talks is a first step.

About cooperation of Communist Romania and Soviet Union you can read here and in many other places... To say that Romanian general was privy to foreign operations of GRU and KGB is a pretty big stretch, Romanians were not trusted with those kind of things.

Funny, that Israel sympathizers and albatross are still looking for "hand of Moscow" everywhere where Western foreign policy fails.

People, don't buy into everything Pacepa says...

The guy is a most despicable turncoat... he's a guy who defected after enjoying a lot of privileges from former masters, and he's known in diplomatic circles as a "cabotin" who tells you what you want to hear.
