Havn't heard that, they have another dedicated close air support plane on the roadmap? All I'm aware of are the F-22 taking the superiority role from the F-15 and the F-35 taking the zergling role from the F-16 (and B767 varients taking up AWACS, tanker and transport roles from the B707 family)

I read they're supposed to be around til 2025.

Imagine if they updated it further with advanced ground targeting systems similar to the Apache Longbow. If they could track and target multiple tanks at one time and release a barrage of Hellfire missles from a distance, they'd be the ultimate ground warfare machine.

That's my favorite plane...also like the F4U Corsair.

Thinking back I think my grandfather worked at a manufacturing plant making grumman hellcats durring WWII. He died before I was born, so I'm not sure on that as I never met him and have only heard a couple things about him.

Questions have been raised abt those depleted uraniums...hopefully, it won't produce environmental or health hazards as alleged by some "concern organizations"

For me, they're meant to kill so be it...just don't want our soldiers handling these ammunitions getting some unknown sickness as a consequence. Remember Agent Orange in Vietnam or the unexplained malady that afflicted the veterans of the first Gulf war.

Little trivia, anyone knows it official "name"? For example, the SR-71 (which was originally designated the RS-71 unitl a presidentail misspeak) is called the Blackbird...what is the A-10 called?

Interestingly enough, I've heard it said that the forward movement of the aircraft actually stops momentarily when the cannon if fired....surely that can't be true.

I'll give you half points. One reason is that the empty cartridges are kept onboard as ballast. Second reason is that because it is a close support aircraft, the expended ammunition would rain down on the heads of friendly forces, knocking them unconcious by the sheer weight and volume of expended shells.

my country's army wears helmets so I don't see what the problem is...

I thought the real reason was that there's a 10 cent deposit refund for each one you bring back.
