Wan Jyn's mother a Jedi?
Why would you think that? There's no reason and at that point, all the Jedi should be dead.
There's no story-arch here outside the movie. So making her a Jedi would be pointless. Everyone is dead
Wan Jyn's mother a Jedi?
Great movie. Great fantasy;
Vader stuff was just right. The choking bit was setup for Orson Krennic and he acted his ambition out very very well. He made a very good villain.
While character development was rough, it took off well. And why the Droid death was the "best" death.
Music was questionable a lot of times indeed.
In my top 2. This and the Save-the-Whales one.

Funny, I didn't see it that way. Vader was more of a plot device. I was paying attention to the story and characters at that point. Krennic's presentation of his ambition was childish. Much better acted out than Ren's childish evil presentation.Vader's "joke" was lame and out of character. Vader never made puns and never would. I just didn't think that whole Vader scene was needed - we got Krennic's ambitions and frustrations from his argument with Tarkin. Him going and pouting to Vader made him look foolish and childish. He ran off to dad when his big brother bullied him.
Another plot quibble ... why in the blue hell would the alliance risk having Leia and her ship in the hanger of the main ship of the rebel attack? Also, kind of a disconnect with Bail's last scene where he's leaving Yavin 4 to head back to Alderaan as the fleet seemed to have left from Yavin very shortly after that.
Yea I was doing an internal laugh at the placement of those controls also and was thinking back to the cheesiness of the originals with their love of walkways with giant drops everywhere. That was my few issues with the movie. I get that they wanted to connect it to the 4th movie, but it was bizarre to have Leia hanging out in the ship in the middle of the battle. I was also under the impression that they rebels were attempting sneak the plans via Leia because she had diplomatic status. In this it was just luck of the draw as anyone could have been on the ship.
One other thought kept going through my mind at the end as well.. who builds these bases? Who was the brainchild that thought putting the dish alignment button was well placed on the railing (IDK what you call where it was) hanging off the base for no other reason than to give vertigo. I'd say maybe visual alignment but how one could do that with a ship in space which is what the stupid thing is for negates that. To say nothing of the random opening and closing shaft that we're meant to believe that will cut a leg off if caught in it. I couldn't help but think of Galaxy Quest and the engine room.
The best part was when they succeed in stealing the plans.
no, I haven't seen it yet.
I thought it was.. OK. The end battle was nice, but the first part of the movie didnt really feel all that Star Warsy. No Jedi, no force powers, rebels killing innocents, I didnt really feel a connection to a lot of the concepts of the SW world. Anyone catch the over head page for "General Syndulla"? I wonder if they were talking about Hera or Cham,or someone else. In the end, most of the main characters were one and done and not really a part of the other movies/TV shows, which makes it seem a bit forgettable.
I'd give this a 6.5/10
I was bored for most of the movie, extremely formulaic and basic, not exciting at all until near the the ending. And yes, Vader's first appearance sucked and felt out of place, especially with what they had him say. Literally only thing I this had going for it was that it was Star Wars. And yes, why the hell would they have the Princess as part of a huge battle. It did not feel like a Star Wars at all. I did not care about any of the characters, none of the them were interesting enough.
I didn't think Force Awakens was great because it was a rehash but at least it felt like a Star Wars movie and was interesting to watch, this was neither.
I'd give this a 6.5/10.
I agree. I'd probably give it a 7/10 or something close to that. The first half was just too slow and not that interesting. I like Donnie Yen in Chinese-language movies, but I just can't stand hearing him speak English. It just takes me out every time I hear him! The biggest problem is that the movie tried to push us to like so many new characters at once, but it just didn't do that great of a job. Most of the characters just weren't that interesting, or they didn't do a great job in displaying their flaws. Cassian (or whatever his name is) reminds me a lot of Locke from Final Fantasy VI. He's the sort of rogue-ish character that's somewhat tormented by his past. The problem is that his "turning point" is really just him saying, "Yeah, I've done some bad things... so I'mma help you!" K4-SO was arguably the most interesting character, because he's the one that actually had a personality. Cassian was the quiet brooding one, Jyn was the quiet brooding one, and the rest.... eh, they were kinda better.
Honestly, it was the end of the movie that showed me why this movie just can't live up to a REAL Star Wars movie. The scene with Vader on the ship was the best fucking scene in the movie hands down. It was a bit short (maybe 1-2 minutes), but it was shot in an interesting, almost horror-like manner that just worked really well for him. It made me realize, "Yeah... I would've rather seen him for two hours than the rest of this...."
