You know, I wouldn't be surprised if they can't use the 9800 name with these cards. I wouldn't put it past AMD to sue them on behalf of ATI for stealing the name.

So many dumb lawsuits these days anyway you know.

Too bad it barely runs Doom 3.

Although it certainly was a great buy. $299 for the pro, and $249 for the non-Pro. That series of cards (9700-9800) for almost 2 straight years could play games at highest settings...amazing. That was a great investment back in the day.

Of course, the sad thing was ATI sat on the butts for nearly 2 straight years and if nVidia didn't have the FX fiasco ATI would have been destroyed with that tactic. And look at them now...way behind. Same thing with AMD I guess. Hubris softens the earth beneath the feet of victory.

Which is why nVidia should not let history repeat itself and release a new top end Q4 07 or Q1 08.

You know, speaking of that. IF it is the 9800 series. What will they do on the next release ? Add an X to the beginning ?

I knew this thread was a waste of time from the title.

A short ban might be a good thing to prevent more of this kinda crap

Correct - you can't trademark or copyright a number. That's why Intel actually came up with the "Pentium" name with the 80586... they wanted a name to register so that AMD/Cyrix/IDT/World+Dog couldn't use the 586 moniker as synonymous with Intel's product. That's why we also now have Core, Opteron, Athlon, Duron, Sempron, Phenom, etc...
