9800 GTX late March?

I'm betting 9800 GTX will perform better than what's rumored.

Here's my WAG (wild ass guess): 60-70% faster than the Ultra.

We got our cards pretty close in time to each other ... did i feel screwed by getting an 'equivalent' card to yours? ... hell no ... i was very satisfied with it and said so here at many opportunities. You should not feel screwed as it is still a powerful card a year later.

It is just that i got into the 'unofficial' "AMD's Step up" program for $150 ... 9 months later ... that made me SO happy ... otoh, i would not be happy if i was *depending* on the EVGA "scam" to step me up

seriously, guys, we should all go and buy nvidia stock right now. if the inq is flaming them then they are about to release a 9800gtx with 400% performance increase over 3870x2

actually no, new rumours say GX2 is slightly faster than 8800 GT SLI, so 30% faster than ultra must be 9800GTX.

hah.. when I heard the 9800GTX will NOT come out in march I decided I can wait no longer and bought a 8800GTS 512MB... an XFX one for their superior step up (transferable lifetime warranty, so I can sell it on ebay for more money and buy a new one whenever its available, with none of the eVGA step up bull)

So I guess its coming out in march after all eh.. no biggie... I can do the ebay step up any time.

It was nice to see the cards at a B/M store before any e-tailers, albeit with a $229 price tag. (Not that I was going to buy) They had at least 7~8 of them.

BTW, if that TechARP chart is to be believed, the 9800 GTX is a different chip. If you look carefully, you can see that G80=681M transisters, G92=754M, and G100> 1B. It might as well be an 512-bit/1GB part. Also surprising is that 9600 looks to be made from G92 as well.. Or I should rather say G94 is made from G92? They have the same amount of transistors.. That's some serious waste, if true. G92 yields must be excellent.

It's pathetic... I have been telling anyone how etailers sellf for 1/2 (OEM) to 2/3 (full retail) of the cost of buying retail at a B/M store and then they have to go prove me all wrong.

I guess the B/M isn't dead yet, with prices online on the rise and price on the decline at b/m they might survive yet... the ability to properly return defective/unwanted merchandise at b/m is a huge plus that makes it worth an extra few bucks (as long as its only a LITTLE more expensive)... and the convinence of getting it today is a plus (although you have to acutally lave the house)... if they have a better price there is no reason to shop online.

i definitely check Best Buy now. ... they used to be crap and Circuit City had the "service" - now it is reversed. i was very happy with my 2900xt from BB last May for $330 with Orange Box included; it was the best sale of that GPU - ever!

You could be right. But I don't think whether or not I'm a nice guy has much to do with it. I like my money too. I guess I'm just a little tired of hearing how screwed everything feels they are. I mean, everyone is constantly bitching about being screwed in one of a multitude of ways. Step ups, Driver support, price drops right after buying, etc.

I wonder, if these people feel they are constantly getting screwed, why then don't they quit buying the products? Just give up PC gaming altogether if it causes so much animosity. But they don't. They just repeat what they do, over and over and over again. They don't stop.

I guess gaming might mean more to them than not getting "screwed".???

Well, most of us are American and used to being "screwed" ... look at gas prices ... we complain ... we pay ... we complain ... every week ... that's all.

So we are used to complaining. i mean i *had* to b!tch about Vista when i couldn't tether my Pantech C150 to DUN ... just a "rant" in OS - but i felt better

and of course, we all like to *brag* when something turns out [really] well

Even if you don't use StepUp Evga = official support of end user overclocking, HSF replacement and lifetime warranty. That's pretty solid IMO. If you resell your cards go XFX because you get the same thing sans StepUp but can transfer your lifetime warranty to your buyer. That builds value and helps you ask for a better price than selling an old card with no warranty.

I'll get a 9800 myself if it can lay the smackdown on a GTX @ 660|2040 1600. Otherwise I guess I'll keep my old card.

Basically the 9600 is an 8700 and the 9800 is an 8900. They are nothing more than 8800s with more/less unified shaders/geometry/texture units, respectively.

NVIDIA stock is always a good buy, but the reasons for the Inquirer flaming NVIDIA are probably more along the lines of "You won't invite us to your Editors Days? Fine. We'll flame you! Let's see how many people buy your better GPUs once we spring your stockholder letter on them and say you're mean guys who won't cut Ati a break! Nyah!"
