It was my understanding this was at earliest a 2nd or 3rd quarter launch if not later and seems entirely too close to launch after the GX2. I wouldn't bother posting this if I wasn't so mad about the GX2 right now.

If you read the article, they say that it is G92 based just like the 8800GT/8800GTS, and the 9800GX2.

nVidia really held back on the 8800GT/GTS by only enabling 16 ROPs and equipping the cards w/ a 256-bit bus. The 9800GTX will be a higher clocked G92 probably with a full 384-bit bus. That's just what I think but it's probably what will happen.

There are a few issues I have w/ the link I found. If the 9800 gtx is g92 based then why even bother with a GX2, especially so close to each other. It seems like the gtx would cannibalize the gx2. Also the naming conventions would lend the 8800 gts 512 to be called a 9800 gts not to mention the gt would also fall in there. It just is confusing to be so similar and yet be in different generations. Also, what happened to the 9800's being based on the g100? (or whatever its being called now)

I was convinced they change the code naming scheme:

D9M = Mainstream
D9P = Performance
D9E = Enthousiast

I thought these were to be the 9xxx series. I don't know what the nVidia marketing dept has been smoking, but they should either pass it on so we can understand it too, or cut the dosage.

I'm really hoping this happens soon because my Step Up opportunity ends in May. I'd hate to have to wait until the last minute to use it. This is the card I want.

Hmm just like that guy on the Simpsons er Nelson, Haa-Haa! But seriously the video card industry has always been smoke and mirrors. You always paid a premium for those extra 3-5 FPS. Nvidia may have just have been lulled into complacency being at the top, plus looking at all those 90 day evga step up from Christmas and New Years I guess they do not want an overstock of stepped up 8800GT's.

Why does everyone assume that the 9800gx2 will be based on G92, no one has any solid evidence on it at all its all just guesswork

It might be a revised version of the core like the 7900 was to the 7800 or a new core completely no one knows

Maybe we'll get the dual SLI connectors as well for Tri-SLI :p We all know how well the drivers for that works.

Um the die shot has already been leaked. G92-450 is the GPU being used for the GX2. For reference, 8800GTS 512mb uses G92-400 core and 8800GT uses G92-2x0 core.

What exactly are the differences between them? Just the amount of stream processors?

You're welcome. They've been around a while, used to be called Adrians rojak pot. I've found those charts to be helpful on several occations.

So then, don't buy eVGA anymore. Then you won't feel screwed. I've had my 8800GTS for just shy of a year now. I was hoping of course to take advantage of eVGA's step up at the time I purchased it, but that time came and went without anything to upgrade to besides a GTX, which way too much money last June. Can anyone tell me why, I don't feel screwed? Should I feel screwed? LOL. Tell the nice framerates I still get in most games how screwed I am. Please.

Installing G92 GTS SLI with brand new cards this very moment. I figured my step-up would have expired before launch of anything worthy. Perhaps not!

A love/hate SLI relationship begins tonight, but may be short lived if 9800 GTX delivers. Typical of all my relationships... :D
