This was an unfortunate incident, but those of you who are calling for the heads of the thieves are really blowing it out of proportion. This is not a case for frontier justice (if there is such a case) - it does not appear the thieves intended to use violence, but instead violence was introduced into the equation by Chris' sister. I am not blaming her for her reaction, but her behavior was foolish and could easily have gotten her killed (of course, her death would quite correctly have been blamed on the thieves, who would be looking at Murder One). This case has all the earmarks of a crime perpetrated by stupid drug addicts, not sinister professional criminals.
I am the furthest thing from liberal when it comes to violent crime (in addition to the fact that I am a prosecutor for a living, I have been violently mugged, and had a friend murdered, in addition to having several people threaten to kill my mother, who has been a judge for 19 years), but this was just not the crime of the century. If someone were foolish enough to provide Chris with the information he seeks, he or she would be legally responsible as an accessory before the fact for any violent acts he perpetrated against the thieves. The fact that he posted the request here would be evidence of premeditation, and it is quite likely Chris and the person who helped him would be up on charges. Depending on the severity of his reaction, they might end up in prison, with felony convictions that would make employment a tough prospect for the rest of their lives.
The bottom line: leave this to the police.
EDIT: Chris, I understand your frustration, but your telling me "fucku" just reinforces my point that you are far too upset to take action here. Nothing good will come of it. Focus your energy on caring for and supporting the victims here, not on some misguided effort at justice.
