you get a different car every day?

Well, yes and no...I have a preference, but sometimes it's taken so I get a different one.

Does "hours" mean engine-running hours? If so, that's 143,100 minutes that the car has run over a period of 42,869 miles.

That means, the car has gone approximately 1 mile every 3.3 minutes (or, an average of 18 mph)

Yeah - 42869 / 2385, 17.97mph.

Is this from a highway patrol, or a cop that drove around cities and towns. I'd consider the highway cruiser but not the patrol car.

Garbage. Our city can hardly afford to maintain them. Transmission problems galore, water pump replacements, master cylinder failures, interior falling apart, etc. Needless today, at least they keep our mechanics in business.

I'd never purchase a police vehicle anyhow. They rag those things to death. Even if they have not a lot of hours and a medium/high mileage, most of those miles are spent being floored, or idling. They drive over curbs with police cars, across medians, etc. Most of the time you'll find they have bent/damaged suspension components.. especially with the garbage unibody police cars like the charger. They just take it for a re-alignment and sell it, only for you to find out someone went baja'ing in it and your car can't be aligned properly without wearing out tires on one side.

Wow, cops had to get rid of it at less than 100K. I've seen crown vics police interceptors that had 250K... that should tell you everything.

EDIT. Somebody recommended used Hyundai Sonata. Now that's the deal. Their quality is actually improving and they still don't keep their value well, so it is pretty much best for the money.

Not necessarily - ours are on a 3 year replacement schedule regardless of mileage. We also don't have enough cars to be able to easily absorb having multiple cars out for repair simultaneously.

No. If it were a Crown Vic or Caprice, then it may be worth it. Those are full body-on-frame and have the durability that stands up to police abuse. The Charger? Not so much.

Does the interceptor have a different engine or better heads? I can't see dropping that much on a higher mileage Charger interceptor if it doesn't have performance upgrades over the stock ones.

why would you want to buy a trashy POS of a car, let alone a trashy car that you know has been abused??

no

look at the other threads about people wanting , used, police vehicles

Only buy a used cop car if you know what you are getting yourself into. That being said. I would buy a used cop Crown Vic as long as it has straight body panels. A crown vic can take a hell of a lot more abuse than a Charger. It helps that the Vic has a real frame and the Charger is uni-body. Also, the 4.6L modular engine in the Vic is detuned for longer life. It's not running to get the most HP out of it like the Charger.

You're crazy dude, do you know how abused that car is? I don't know about cops elsewhere, but here they run curbs, take off like crazy bastards, don't care for bumps, etc. Those cars haven't been babied at all and have been strained in a lot of ways, not to mention excessive idling. I'd say that 90 k miles is more like 150 k.

Yeah, as a matter of fact I do IT consulting for one of the largest private security companies in Texas, and they exclusively buy ex-cop cars for their patrol officers, and they are all Crown Vics and Caprices. Other than being physically worn in, they're highly reliable and tough, and they typically leave service with around 200k on the odometer still in running condition.

As a pretty solid daily driver, they can be a bargain if you get them cheap enough. That said, they will almost invariably be ugly and have rattles/creaks here and there.

Wow alot of Dodge haters on here. Cant say I blame you guys, my first car was a very crappy 1983 dodge omni.

That being said I do own a 2007 Charger SRT8 that I love. If it has the boat load of problems like people on this forums claim it will prob be my last dodge, otherwise i am in love.
