91,000 miles on a Dodge Charger Police car, worth it?

I found a 2006 Dodge Charger Police Interceptor. They want 12,000 for it, you think I could talk them down some? Would it be worth it? I want a Charger but I want one that I don't care about if that makes sense. If I got a civilian one it'd have to be pristine but they go 16,000+.

12,000 grand is a lot of money, that's like 12 million dollars.

No, I wouldn't do it. I have friends and family who are LEO, and the word on those Chargers is that they're fun, but they're pretty much junk. Wait a year or two and pick one up for half that price as a fun/extra car.

NH State Police was having transmission problems with their Chargers. FWIW.

They are fun, though. :p

I have a company owned Dodge ram 4x4 2500 quad and I must say I am very surprised by Dodge they sure do make one huge piece of crap. I am at 150,000 miles its an 04 and it goes to the shop about once a month for strange stuff like A/C condensor fan or the vacuum actuator that changes from dash to floor to defrost goes out or the heads having to be rebuilt because Dodge put in valves with undersized valve stems etc. I still have random loss of engine power and no one can figure that out.. and random vacuum leaks. Don't ever buy a dodge..... now saying that I did venture out and buy a Hyundai against my better judgment and I must say the v6 Sonata rocks. I got an 07 SE for 10 grand out the door its pretty sweet and have had zero problems and I love the V6's power.

The miles are misleading, as police cars idle for many hours to run the electronics now days.

I'd recommend never buying a police car.

IIRC the one I had today had ~41k and ~2100 hours. I'll try to remember to check tonight.

As AMDMadness put it, Dodge makes pieces of shit. That being said I'd encourage buying pretty much any other brand than Dodge. I've had my own share of taking my car to the shop, for instance replacing the thermostat, transmission control module, Whole A/C system, and the whole engine (in a period of about 2 years). This is on a 2002 Dodge Stratus SE that only has 73,000 miles on it now. That thing is the biggest piece of shit and I will never, ever purchase another Dodge/Chrysler product. It's going to be a Toyota for me next time.

They decided to make the brilliant design of putting the water pump inside the engine, so when that blew out and my rod/main bearings were also going out, it was just more efficient to replace the whole motor. My dad and uncle replaced the whole motor, saving about 5,000 bucks having the dealer do it.

I bought a 2002 Dodge Neon back in 2003 and the only thing I had to get fixed is transmission seals and it only cost me about 400 bucks. I bought it at 12,000 miles and it was a rental, I'm at 78,000 miles and it has never let me down.

I didn't know Neon and Charger are the same car, and rental vs. cop car abused could be different.

I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole for that much. I know what those cars are put through and it just isn't worth it. It's not uncommon for them not to be shut off for a whole 12 hour shift.

Today's car has 42869 miles and 2385 hours.

No.

You know how badly rental cars are driven?

This is MUCH worse ...

Does "hours" mean engine-running hours? If so, that's 143,100 minutes that the car has run over a period of 42,869 miles.

That means, the car has gone approximately 1 mile every 3.3 minutes (or, an average of 18 mph)

Not bad. It could easily be worse with someone that commutes daily in LA traffic.
