Sharp is a big-time LCD panel manufacturer...top R&D spender in display tech...Samsung, LG and the rest of the korean junk heap just suck...
 
paid $650 for my used ibm x30. it has warranty till 05/2007
best bucks I ever spent. it has been going for 1 year with me, still running strong
 
Longkid: the OP doesn't want Apple's because of bad past experience (hardly a reason, but oh well 😛). I got over my grudges and now I prefer them.
 
Where did you get your dv1000. What was the price and configuration that you paid for.

Thanks....I am looking into buying this laptop also. Basically I am in the same situation, except my budget is a little more. Still debating between the 700m, dv1000, or the sony s260
