9 Pin mini-din to 4 pin S-Video?

I can't seem to find a connector that converts a 9 pin mini-din into a 4-pin S-video mini-din. I'm wondering, since, after looking at the connections:

The grounds and the color signals appear to be the exact same. The 9-pin just has some extra useless (to me) connections on it. Would it be possible to snap off the key on the 4-pin S-Video cable, connect it up to the 9-pin and get a working connection? I ask, because I want to hook up my PC to my TV, but the 6800GS I have in the second PC that I want to hook up only has the 9-pin mini-din in it and not a "catch all" mini-din like later video cards.
Any chance this will work? I may test it out, as I have a bunch of extra s-video cables lying around, but I'll have to wait until later.

Would it work? It's my only option, outside of buying a new video card, unfortunately.

I didn't look closely to see if I agree with what you're saying about the pins, but these guys have lots of adapters if you didn't look at their place when trying to find a 9 pin to 4 pin adapter. They might have one.

Can't you just use a standard s-video cable? AFAIK, those mini-DIN connectors have the s-video pins in the appropriate place. More importantly, I do exactly that, and it works fine.

Nope Chromanance and Lumanance are mixed up.

i think you need to find one of those breakout cables...they plug into the mini din and have a composit/svideo/etc branching out of it...

What video card is it? evey maker use their own pinout so you can't just assume those 4 pins match exactly the s-video one.

contact customer support. You could also try to splice your own cable. Just get a 9-pin din cable and an s-video connector, trial and test til you get it right 🙂

What happened to your cable? It should have been in the box...
