9 dead after Plano, TX mass shooting.

If only Texas didn't have such restrictive gun laws maybe they could have had guns to defend themselves.

I know I feel safer being at a football party where everyone is drinking and armed.

What we must not do is restrict guns from abusive assholes who brandish their weapons while talking shit about their ex at a bar.

This is what I was getting at with this post. The whole gun free zone etc... argument that happens after every mass shooting. The fact is most happen in residences. With the hurricane this one barely got mentioned and yet it took 8 innocent people's lives.

Can't help noticing that it's said that the killer engaged in domestic violence. Seems to be a trait that crops up with repeatedly with many of the Islamist variety of spree-killers as well.

I keep thinking they are, at some level, all the same kind of people, whatever ideological dress-up games they play.

If only there had been a good guy with a gun.

The problem with good guys with guns... what happens if there's 10 good guys with guns? Who's to know who's the good guy???? Especially somewhere like a dark theatre?

Even worse chaos. Imagine when the cops show up...

It's one thing to want to protect yourself if backed into a corner but to be an aggressor (along with many others) - you have to play it out all the way.

How dare you ask a sensible question when it comes to the 2nd amendment!!

Even if the Good Guy With A Gun thing played out for the best here and saved everyone's lives the problem is that increased gun ownership is correlated with increased mortality due to homicide and suicide generally. So yeah, maybe if everyone grabbed a gun and everything worked out here the Good Guy saves the day. Doesn't change the fact that overall you're going to have a lot more than 9 additional people dead due to more widespread gun ownership.

As I have said many times in the aggregate guns are counterproductive for the purposes of self protection.

The obvious answer is 20 good guys with guns. Responsible gun owners never run into problems.
