I'd rather take these lessons 9 deaths at a time than completely disarm our country and leave us vulnerable to the Russians.

They are already waging an intense psy-ops war causing intense racial, gender, sexual-orientation, and political division among us. So now that the seeds are being sown, the only thing they have really left to do is take away our guns.

I just hope that the politicians and the mega-wealth elite that support citizen disarmament are getting something on the backend from the Russians, otherwise they will be no better pawns than Trump.

You may think I am being silly, but most everybody on this forum acknowledges that Russia meddled with the election, and that Trump is seriously harmful for this country. Why does Russia want to seriously harm our country? For what purpose? Probably to take us over. I'm open to other suggestions and theories as to why we are being systematically dismantled though if anybody has one to offer.

The obvious answer is 20 good guys with guns. Responsible gun owners never run into problems.

The most obvious thought comes to mind - we can't even trust fellow drivers on the road next to us - we're supposed to trust random gun owners not to shoot bystanders accidentally during a situation?

Again, owning only to protect yourself I'm ok with, though shortsighted and selfish. Don't put my life in your hands - I'll take my chances (I choose to live in lily-white suburbia for a reason) if it means fewer guns out there.

Fewer drivers = fewer accidents = fewer deaths.

I'm pretty sure the Russians would rather we start shooting at each other... hard to do w/o guns....

While a witty response. Can you explain WHY they want us to start shooting each other? What is the end game here. Why was Trump elected? Why are they promoting division among Americans on social media outlets with their troll farms?

Because you're their main global competitor.

Your star sinks and they have a chance that theirs rises.

Does not really explain the astroturfing efforts to promote divisive idealogy on social media outlets. Do they for some reason fear a white-dominated America more than a multicultural America? I can see some merits in that line of thinking considering most of Russia (at least the political power) is Caucasian and prone to racism.

You're arguing against a straw man here. We're not saying take away all guns. We're saying that the claim that gun ownership dramatically reduces and mitigates violent crime is a myth.

Also, an important update: real life is not like Red Dawn. You will not fend off a Russian invasion because you and your friends have pistols, or even semi-auto rifles. If the Russians by some strange fluke not only decided to invade the US but successfully defeated the combined might of the US military and all its allies, you know what would happen if you fought back? You'd die. You don't have machine guns, tanks, attack helicopters and all the equipment that makes your personal gun ownership utterly inadequate. Unless you want to argue for near-total derestriction of weapons, so that you have the legal right to own rocket launchers and armored personnel carriers, the resistance-to-Russian-invasion argument doesn't hold up.

Besides, I don't think invasion is Russia's goal. It wants to weaken the US and its allies so that it can assert economic dominance and recreate some of the USSR (Putin is ultimately fixated on his past), but I don't think it sees any benefit from angering virtually the entire international community for the sake of some imperial glory.

Isn't the most likely answer that they are just trying to sow division and know that race is a primary cleavage point?

The idea is just to spread disquiet and discord. Look at your country at the moment, you are spending more time arguing with yourselves than dealing with issues. That's obviously in any other powers favour.

Yea I am just trying to figure out what is the point in doing that?

Perhaps it could be just experimental to see what it gains them. Without necessarily a specific gain in mind. I can accept that I think.

Yea I don't see a point in arguing about weapons when it is basically proven that violence is a socio-economic issue in the aggregate and if you want to get anecdotal yes there are crazy people in the world.

I am here for the bigger issues not the low hanging fruit.

As for your Red Dawn argument. Please let the US armed forces and middle eastern terrorists know that. Seeing us toil there for the last 16 years against cavedwellers is starting to feel depressing when I am being told I have no chance to raise a resistance force against unfriendlies setting foot in my country. What gives?

"A house divided against itself cannot stand."

What gives is that nobody buys in to your fantasy.

You have stated here for probably the past year that Russian has been engaging in a psy-ops war against the USA. So you are including yourself in this "nobody" you refer to?

What those shootings have in common? Losers with mental issues/problems along with anger management problems against their spouses/partners/family members -

It is not a coincidence that 2017′s two deadliest shootings involved men targeting their wives. According to research collected by Everytown for Gun Safety, a majority of mass shootings ― defined as incidents where at least four people are killed, not including the perpetrator ― involve domestic violence. Between 2009 and 2016, in 54 percent of mass shootings the perpetrator shot a current or former intimate partner or family member.

Keep blaming guns won't do jack.

Perhaps for much the same reasons the US has relentlessly meddled in other countries (most definitely including Russia) throughout most of its history? It's what major powers do.

ah yes. the russians are the ones that caused our racial and sexual and political divisions. It's like we were this socialist utopia before Russia's targeted fake-news campaign made us all want to kill each other for reasons.

Violence is a socio-economic issue, and that means arming more people doesn't solve it.

And when it comes to places like Afghanistan, you might recall that groups like the Taliban and al-Qaeda aren't exactly honoring gun ownership laws... hell, even in the US, they'd be violating not just the law, but any spirit of reasonable weapon ownership. And that's really the point: it's naive to think that that enshrining gun rights and encouraging widespread legal gun ownership will save you from an attacking foreign power. Mounting an effective resistance will always involve breaking the law, and at that point the law won't matter anyway. That is, unless you want to argue that Americans have the right to own grenade launchers and tanks.

You're being obtuse. I referenced your invasion fantasy.

We don't know what they are planning. I agree with you on that part. I am not particularly attached to the invasion, definitely not a fantasy. I just am curious about their end-game. It may just be a mining operation of sorts, not really sure what they are going to get but they will keep digging anyways.

Russia is escalating it and causing levels of hysteria the USA has never seen before.

Since liberals are so smart, I wonder what laws they are going to pass to fix this....

Or maybe they think that criminals will just hand over all of their guns to the government for the greater good??
