I would love to see Kerry ask Pres Bush directly during the debates why the funerals of soldiers are not allowed to be covered in the media if their families desire it?

I think the reason is clear...it might cause the support for whatever war we're involved in to wane. I'm not sure what the official White House reason is; I don't have a lot of time right now but I can look it up later if noone else has.

A Pentagon spokeswoman said the military-wide policy actually dates from about November 2000 -- the last days of the Clinton administration -- but it apparently went unheeded and unenforced, as images of caskets returning from the Afghanistan war appeared on television broadcasts and in newspapers until early this year. Though Dover Air Force Base, which has the military's largest mortuary, has had restrictions for 12 years, others "may not have been familiar with the policy," the spokeswoman said. This year, "we've really tried to enforce it."
So your intention of blaming Bush for policy is moot. Sure he could let policy slide but then what is the point of having policy? I think alot of the families have voiced support for this action, and I know that if it was someone from my family coming back that way I wouldn't want it all over the news. But I'm sure those on the left will believe it is only because Bush is "evil".

Blaming Bush for policy? I think you're trying too hard my friend. You think maybe your accusation that I'm blaming Bush for policy is like Wag's accusation that you personally attacked him? ;)

So your angle isn't to try to paint Bush in a bad light on this? :p

Have I blamed Bush for this policy? That's what you accused me of, is it not?

As for trying to paint Bush in a bad light...I've stated that Bush enforced what has not been enforced. I've also stated that the reason for this was probably due to not wanting the support for war to wane. Do you disagree with either of these?

Is there nothing you don't question? Lots of questions out of you but narry a statement about what you think.;) So you think the support for the war might wane if the policy wasn't there? So you think that Bush is just doing this to bolster the war opinion? I believe there is far more to it than simplistic politics as some here suggest. These are people and families we're talking about here - not just some political tool to be flaunted. Believe me- if the press could take pics and roll tape- we'd see it on the news every night from Mr.Brokaw and Mr. Jennings. So sure I have enough respect for these soldiers who died serving their country and for their families to support the ban on pics. Would you like your family to be used that way by the "mainstream" press? I know I wouldn't.

But again - your angle. What are you trying to say via round about questions?

Here CAD, let me do it for you since you'll melt if you do it...

"Yeah, I wrongly accused you of blaming this policy on Bush. Sorry 'bout that Gaard."

Lots of questions out of you but narry a statement about what you think.

Um, I think I've stated what and why...look up a couple of posts.

So you are saying....?
So you aren't trying to angle this against Bush?

CkG

What = Bush enforcing a policy that has gone unenforced, for the most part, for years.

Why = Bush doesn't want support for the Iraq War to wane.

I understand that and I asked about that.

"So you think that Bush is just doing this to bolster the war opinion?"

Thanks for a direct reply though;)

"So you think the support for the war might wane if the policy wasn't there?" If film and photos of our dead boys are broadcast regularly, it seems to me that support would wane.
"So you think that Bush is just doing this to bolster the war opinion?" No, that's not what I said. 'Bolster' is not the same as 'not waning'.

Thanks for a direct reply though;) How's it feel? ;)

Great:) I'm just trying to figure out what you are trying to say.
IMO that isn't the only reason or even the main reason I think he did this. I think it is out of respect. Hell, Clinton put the policy out there - no? Why did he do that? Was it out of respect for the families and such? What other reason would there have been? He was leaving office and there wasn't a war going on. Interesting...
