use a 30 off 150 to make it even hotter (49.99ar/ac), but you might have to fill in $20 worth of stuff since its 130 after ir

Will that 30 off 150 work in the B&M store? or online only?

I was thinking of getting that 20 dollar 128M<B USB Key Drive thing thats floating around too.

The Cyberdrive is a 32X CD burner, as opposed to the 24X speed of the BenQ - which is what the KHypermedia box apparently lists.
This might turn out to be one of those things that you don't know WHAT brand drive you get until you open the box :)

I don't think the Cyberdrive has the bit-setting abilities of the BenQ, which lessens its appeal.
Other than that, and the CD burner speed differences, they should be fairly similar (same Phillips guts).

DVD+RW 4X
DVD-R 4X
DVD-RW 2X
CD-R 40X
CD-RW 24X
DVD-ROM 12X
It burns Great so far and is really quiet too.

The cyperdrive got an excellent review over at cdrinfo.com..excellent write quality for dvd and cdr...and the fastest drive at 8x...only took 7:48...

only real downside is the list of supported 8x dvd +r was not as much as some other drives..wonder if they will update their fw

SCORE!!!!!!!!! I went as they opened and scored a magic spin dual format for 79.99 out the door NO REBATE!!!!!!!

part # bdvdrw8d sku=8806900898
The ad is for the hypermedia drive but the magic spin is on the subtitute list. There are no rebates for this drive so it was marked down. I will try it out. If I find the burner to be junk I will return it and wait another week. This drive burns it all BUT it only burns 8x on dvd+r media. Good luck if you are on the west coast.

Good luck.

OOS at my local store. They said that they never got any in, and they don't know when they will. They gave me a raincheck but I don't have a lot of faith in it.

I too was given a MagicSpin drive as a substitute but not at 79.99. They rang it up as 129.99 and told me to mail in the Khypermedia rebate. The drive inside the box is DD401 [Optorite]

If it is the Optorite, here is some info on it:

http://www.cdrinfo.com/Sections/Art...ne=Optorite+DD0401+Dual+DVD+Recorder&index=14

I was hoping for the BenQ, because I am interested in being able to burn with the DVD-ROM book type... however it seems that there exist a lot of "bitsetting" utilities for certain DVD writers that do the same thing. I'm trying to find out if one exists for the Optorite.

If anyone got the subsitute Magicspin 8x and is getting something other than the Optorite, let us know.

I got the Optorite at last weeks OM substitution. It wouldn't burn a thing. Test yours out....but I am sure you would anyway.

Unfortunately you are unable to change the Book Type with the Optorite. On one of the video froums some posters who had contacted Optorite about this had said they have no plans to add this feature. Maybe at some point they will change their mind and include it in a firmware upgrade.

Hmm....two things:

1.) From my readings at CDR-Info, I would have to say that, despite not being a dual-format drive, the BenQ rebadged Khypermedia 8X single format drive seems to be overall, a *better* drive in terms of error correction, buffer, jitter, DVD "Backups" and such... as compared to the MagicSpin substitute drive.

2.) I'm also concerned about the fact that some have said that they got the drive for $79.99 out the door due to a lack of rebate whereas others were told to send in the Khypermedia $50 rebate with the MagicSpin drive UPC and they would still get the rebate.

I was one of the ones who got the MagicSpin as a substitute for $109.99 out the door, and supposedly able to send in a $50 rebate under the KHypermedia rebate form...but I'm a little nervous about that. They didn't give me any substitute rebate forms at the desk, which they usually do for other things I've gotten under substitute.

Anyone else have any thoughts? Disagreements? I'd love to hear some arguments *for* the MagicSpin drive, as the only OM in my area is ~30' away....a waste of an hour to go back to return. But I also want to get the best drive I can for that amount of money...

Thanks in advance...

The Optorite DD0401 should be a good drive. Even at $109 it's not bad, but if you can get the $50 rebate also consider yourself lucky. I've got the DD0203 and have burned probably close to 400 or so DVD discs without a problem, and probably close to a hundred HD-BURN CD discs without a problem.

I got the KHypermdia and it was the Cyberdrive version. KHypermedia has their won label on the drive but the whole face plate is like Compton mentioned in the link several messages back.

I suppose you can tell whether it's going to be a BenQ or Cyberdrive by looking at the box. The Cyberdrive says to include NeroExpress. I suppose the BenQ should have WinDVD Creator according to DVDPLUSRW.ORG.

The BENQs also include Nero Express, so that's not necessarily a way to tell for sure what's in the box.

The easiest way to ensure you get a BENQ is to buy a BENQ ... they're readily available on-line for approx. $125, full retail version.

I also got the magic spin dual burner for 28.99 no rebate. I got lucky, my friend is the manager. Hope if works, deal of the century woO!!

Also, is there any way i could verify this is the optorite drive. The drive itself is labeled: manufactured by Top-G, and the front panel looks nothing like the optorite.

Count me in on the folks who were subbed the MagicSpin, and told to send in the rebate.

So far so good on the MagicSpin.....

There appears to be a new OEM firmware - 130E dated 12/25 - for the drive at Accesstek (check your drive, it should say Accesstek on it - although it is an Optorite DD0401):
http://www.accesstek.com.tw/_english/2_product/03_appendix.php?hID=2

Still debating whether to give the newer firmware a go...

Neither does mine. Have you installed it yet?

The drive I recieved shows up as a GENERIC DVD RW 8XMax, and Nero InfoTool reports a firmware version of 110E - if that helps at all.
