8RDA+ memory question

I've been looking for some new memory to get for my 8rda+ board. I've decided to go with Kingston HyperX 512MB PC3000. My question is: should I get a single stick of 512 ($84 at googlegear) or two sticks of 256 ($49 each at googlegear)? What is the difference between having a single stick at 512 and two sticks at 256?

Also, I currently have a single stick of Kingston 256mb PC2100 ValueRam. How will having another higher quality and faster speed stick of pc3000 effect my performance? I ask because I currently can't get my FSB over 140mhz (running a Tbred B 2100+), and I'm hoping this new ram will help me out in that field.

Thanks

Ummmm...so are you saying to trash my current pc2100 and buy pc3200 instead of pc3000? I was hoping to get pc3000 because it's cheaper. Not with unlimited funds here. Will pc3000 not work well on an 8RDA+?

It was my understanding that only the Crucial PC2700 has problems and that is with all NForce2, not just this board...??

Yeah, I read your thread...though I honestly don't know what you were getting at other than the fact that Kingston and Crucial pc2700 doesn't run at 166mhz like it's suppose to. I read a bunch of other posts of people saying they were running HyperX with no problems whatsoever though. Also, the only people with real problem were those with pc2700 Crucial and regular Kingston or Kingston ValueRam.

I'm using a stick of this stuff on my 8RDA+; it's only at 166MHz right now; going to try for 200MHz sometime though. It seems to work fine.

I still don't have a good answer to my original question: which is better. 2 sticks of 256 or 1 stick of 512? And should I still use my old stick of ram? If I do will it slow down the performance of the faster stick(s) I plan on getting?

There is no real performance difference beween 1 or 2 sticks, but if you do not plan on getting more ram in the future 2 256's should be better. Maybe later you will want another 512 and you could run 2 512's if you buy one now. Also your ram is only as good as the slowest stick, so the 2100 being in there will definately keep your fsb low.
