8GB

Horizon Forbidden West 3060 is faster than the 2080 Super despite the former usually competing with the 2070. Also 3060 has a better 1% low than 4060 and 4060Ti 8GB.

10GB / 12GB

Reasons why still shipping 8GB since 2014 isn't NV's fault.
  1. It's the player's fault.
  2. It's the reviewer's fault.
  3. It's the developer's fault.
  4. It's AMD's fault.
  5. It's the game's fault.
  6. It's the driver's fault.
  7. It's a system configuration issue.
  8. Wrong settings were tested.
  9. Wrong area was tested.
  10. Wrong games were tested.
  11. 4K is irrelevant.
  12. Texture quality is irrelevant as long as it matches a console's.
  13. Detail levels are irrelevant as long as they match a console's.
  14. There's no reason a game should use more than 8GB, because a random forum user said so.
  15. It's completely acceptable for the more expensive 3070/3070TI/3080 to turn down settings while the cheaper 3060/6700XT has no issue.
  16. It's an anomaly.
  17. It's a console port.
  18. It's a conspiracy against NV.
  19. 8GB cards aren't meant for 4K / 1440p / 1080p / 720p gaming.
  20. It's completely acceptable to disable ray tracing on NV while AMD has no issue.
  21. Polls, hardware market share, and game title count are evidence 8GB is enough, but are totally ignored when they don't suit the ray tracing agenda.
According to some people here, 8GB is neeeevaaaaah NV's fault and objective evidence "doesn't count" because of reasons(tm). If you have others please let me know and I'll add them to the list. Cheers!

Yeah, it is the equivalent of ultra. If you watch that video with the 6700XT it looks like you would be right in the freesync sweet spot at 1440 epic.
I don't really care about playing this game in particular, as I was bored to death by Jedi Fallen Order after trying it on PC Game Pass. But it's nice to see 1440p 50-60 fps high/ultra doable on my card on the worst ports.

Bad ports are nothing new. For example: Red Dead 2 and Cyberpunk were both terribad at launch. Look where they are now. Publishers want their ROI started before addressing most issues. Being a beta tester when you play day one on PC, is just how it is. I don't think console ports necessarily run better on similar hardware either. Callisto Protocol for instance, runs better on Nvidia.

I just saw people complaining Jedi Fallen Order stuttering never got fixed. I played through a couple of times between a 2060 super, 2070 super, and 3060ti, and it was a great looking, silky smooth experience. I always wonder what is nerfed on their systems that they have those issues. E.G. All the crappy command center/RGB control apps people install. Dudes still using antivirus like Norton, McAfee, etc. Unstable overclocks, cooling issues, wonky storage, PSU issues, crypto crippled cards, OS rot, needing a BIOS update, I/O issues (ask me about using an Xbox series controller via bluetooth in certain games) the list goes on.

The idea that games should still fit in 8GB is silly. Geometry, high res textures, collision, BVH structures, and everything else the devs are telling us they need more VRAM for. Kraken introduces even more issues for PC. Then there is the fact we know consoles being a fixed platform means we need even beefier hardware to get the same results.
The MLID interviews with several Devs indicated that it's not just high res textures, but a multi-overlay of separate textures applied as needed for the desired graphical outcomes. Optimized ports is not the issue, but space to store much higher data structures for more realistic looking games. Some said outright that 32 GB cards would allow them to do a lot more graphically.

EA is blaming win10 now. Don't use "cutting edge" processors with win10 folks. Very very bad. So bad. The worst.

Stop using e-cores with win10! Or x3d or anything. Don't use a 4090 with a low end i3 or i5 or i7 either.

Did they just automatically assume a standard Joe, would use a 1800 dollar video card on a i3 or ryzen 1600.

Can we all agree this has to be the funniest comment any PR can pull out of his rear?

The funniest PR comments are when these publishers who have had their QA teams crunching 60-100 hour weeks for months playing their games and logging countless bugs the publisher ignored then ask players to submit their bugs and people act like it shows the publisher cares.

New Daniel Owen video:

Cliff Notes:
1) He wanted to do A/B testing with different CPUs like he did with HWL and Callisto Protocol using 7700X vs 7800X3D
2) Unfortunately EA Games App locked him out because it detected too many hardware changes
3) Jedi Survivor is UE4-based just like HWL and Callisto Protocol and he basically shows A/B footage from those games showing that indeed the behavior with RT on is very similar to those other games, so the more powerful a CPU you can get, the better (given how poorly optimized RT on UE4 is).

I will say it's absurd that I get a better experience with 7800X3D + 7900 XTX compared to a RTX 4090 on the same CPU given the price and performance differential between the two cards.

Honestly my main complaint is 120GB downloads on a rural broadband connection!

It'll take me 2 days to download it and then there'll probasbly be a 20-30gb patch to download!

I don't know how anyone can think 8GB is enough at this point. We've had a 1060 6GB since 2016. Midrange cards should be way beyond that at this point.

The roughly equivalent jump would be from the 1060 back to the Geforce 460, back in 2010. That was a 1GB card! We saw a sixfold increase in framebuffer in the space of 6 years! And now Nvidia are really going to fob us off with an 8GB 4060 card? We've gone from 500% increase to a 33% increase. Pathetic.

My 1060 system is starting to fail, but I really don't want to replace it with the godawful products and pricing available today.

Seems like the Day 1 patch had some slight improvements, but overall the issues with scene transitions/loading zones continue to mar the experience on PC with small stutters at transitions and in cutscenes. Nonetheless, when in combat it feels fluid. 1440p Epic + RT on + FSR Quality.

Also, RIP 8GB vRAM and 16GB system RAM. Note the 0.1% low with the game loading assets. Per IGN's performance review these are less noticeable on PS5/XB

While it is a Musk owned business, Starlink is open to all and at minimum you get 20 down if I remember correctly.
T-Mobile has a 5G home internet service, it’s cheap and unlimited however comes with the usual t-mob disclaimer no overage charges but your usage may be slowed if you are in the top x percentage of users.

If his username doesn't give it away he happens to be in the south of a certain island nation...

EA blaming their consumers is going to be the beginning of their own death knell or them being acquired once their value drops low enough. We seem to be visiting an era from the past where most PC games were terrible due to them being ports from consoles or alien lifeforms, take your pick. There is no point in drm for these titles. Who would be stupid enough to steal a poorly performing game?

Cackling from laughter because of your post but also his user name is "fanatical meat".... LOL!!!!!!!

We have Starlink available here! I'm kinda waiting on the fibre rollout to my area though, they keep promising "soon"!
Who are you with? I keep in touch with family regularly on a weekly basis. Always moaning about the rate increases and promise of fiber never materializing. Makes me happy we immigrated to America but the internet isn't very good here! Ring them up to complain and they'll speak utter tosh to you and sell you on more junk you don't need.

With BT. It's pretty cheap as we have 3 mobile phones and a landline with them as well, I'll certainly go with the first people who run fibre to the house though!

I'm at 3440x1440, everything at epic, RT on, FOV on wider, fidelityFX off and I'm running at high 40s FPS with a 5800x3d and 6950xt.
FidelityFX on quality gives me nearly 90 FPS so I might stick with that.

This is on the very first perp walk bit.

We've also had the 8GB RX 480 that launched at the same time for $240. Even if you want to inflation adjust that it's $300. $300 doesn't buy you more than 8GB today.

You may be out of luck mate. Since ofcom made them split openreach out they've had a massive backlog. Their priorities will be elsewhere, not non major welsh communities. You might have luck with running a biz line on bt to the home. Good sla too. Not much help to you but got a mate up in Blaydon who was offered it at 50% rate of his home plan on their "gig" line for a little less than 50 pcm. Speed taps out to 870 and change which is fine by him. My cousin down in Exeter is on the same plan but for home and is getting banked around by BT for the last year saying they'll send out techs to examine why his speeds are only 70% of what they should be. 🙄 Upload's not bad on fibre 500 or 900. A lot better than what Virgin are offering in his area. Here in America the internet is far worse. I pay a little more than 90gbp pcm for a couple hundred Mbps that rarely hits it even on a swell day and the upload is slower than what I had 10 years ago. There's patches of fiber availability but it's terribly expensive. There's one coms company that had symmetrical fiber a decade ago but they dropped those plans for more money making plans while offering less.

But at least gas and electrical are cheap here. It "balances" it out.

Frametimes suck though, theres a lot of hitching at random points, a lot of the time in cut scenes.

Oh, and I suck at a controller and this game needs one! "press LT" "press X" "press RB" *BUTTON MASHING ENSUES*

It uses over 14gb VRAM and my system was using 18gb of system ram as well.
Looks pretty though.
