8800gtx Power Problem?

This board is full of tremendous insight, I hope someone can help me.

My EVGA 8800GTX recently started squealing (low power alarm, same sound as if the card were unplugged) upon suspend (S3). Seems the power to the card is dipping or being cut before the computer is suspended (the card fan stops well before the CPU, PSU, or case fans).

PSU is an OCZ gamer 600W, and should be ample.

Any one have suggestions for troubleshooting? Time to replace the card or the PSU?

One other thing, I rolled back Vista (32bit) to a known good point in time; the alarm still sounded on suspend. Leads me to think its not a driver or software issue.

Thanks in advance!

Could be the Board, Card or PSU. I'd check the board bios for proper settings, and if that is Still all good,I would eliminate the PSU first,as sometimes that is the easiest. You'd need a volt meter and check the 12v thru a molex for starters. At least you would know that the PSU is still putting out the correct voltage.

Would be worth a shot to reseat the gtx in the slot as well.

thanks Larry. the bios settings look good and i have tried re-seating the card (as well as removing some dust accumulation) to no avail. will need to get a volt meter, but may be tricky to test during the problem condition (5 to 10 secs into standby).

i may just start replacing parts one at a time starting with the PSU and see what works...not the most economical, but if its not solved by the time i get to the 8800gtx, maybe the new nvidia cards will be out and i'll have another excuse to buy up.

any other suggestions are welcome!

For the meter, a cheap 1 will do set to auto on the voltage. Place 1 probe in the yellow wire of the drive connector molex and the other to a black wire in the same connector, thats good enuff to tell you the 12v. You can start the machine with it in there, and get a quick reading as to what gives. Could save a Ton of time and $$.
