pci-e 1.0 is 16x. pci-e 2.0 has double the theoretical bandwidth, though I haven't seen it referred to as 32x. don't know why. hd 3870 is going to have be a real beast to keep up with 8800gt if the nvidia benchies are real. It would be very funny if amd and nvidia get into such a pissing match that they BOTH end up with gtx perf at $250!

It's the older PCI-E slot. Not that it would make any real difference :). I don't think that Nvidias GF9-generation will really need PCI-E 2.0 for it's updated bandwith capabilities.

Those PCI-E 2.0 16x slots have the same bandwith as PCI-E 32x would have.

PCI-e 2.0 gives a higher wattage from just the slot as well...not sure how much but 1.0 gave 75 watts was it?...so more than that for 2.0.

yeah, rusin already pointed out that pci-e 2.0 gives 150w instead of 75w. 8800gt and rv670 should all run just fine in a pci-e 2.0 slot even without the 6 pin pci-e cable plugged in unless they are oc'd quite a bit.

I know that many people will want to ask this Radeon HD 38x0 referring to the XT or Pro version, but it is a pity that I can not say, mainly because the ATI drivers only "Gang of Health,:D" and therefore the effectiveness and not too good to see.

Now many have received GeForce 8800 GT card, it is said that the current price is 8,880 yuan (512 MB) and 7,880 yuan (256 MB). The Kuanghua Market stores have already filled in on the price quotations, more manufacturers are ready to sell stolen.

But today, I heard an appalling news, and that is G92 is the GeForce 8800 GT, and its chip yields only "5%", and if this matter is true, then rush out GeForce 8800 GT HD counterparts Radeon 3800 series is true.

.....................................................................................

Somehow, I cannot believe this 5% yield to be correct.

Agreed. I don't think Nvidia recorded record profits just to lose money on a chip that isn't even really necessary at the moment.

Maybe the 5% is those parts getting binned for GT. Certainly they are already pulling die for future GTS, etc.

Holy cow! I just noticed in PT Boats: Knights of the Sea, even the 512mb 8800GT runs out of frame buffer at 1900x1200! While the 640mb GTS still has enough memory to keep churning.

Another review Link ; No Crysis, though.

Looks hot and noisy (2900xt level). Single slot cooler doesn't help. They measured the heat "behind core", it looks to me like they are trying to hide something.

Great performance, I will wait for a real review of a dual slot cooler card before I make up my mind about buying one.

Some of those scores in "TroubleM's" link do not seem possible for the 8800GT. Even for an o/c'd 8800GT. That one tested there was 660/1900.

There are a couple of things I also don't like about this review:
1. Different/ancient versions of drivers: Catalyst 7.9, Forceware 162.18 (8800GTS) and Forceware 169.01 (8800GT)
2. Power Consumption Tests: it should be a simple read but ALL numbers seem higher than normal.
3. They don't report the temperature based on software reading (their method is subjective at best).
4. Those sound tests are also subjective (I liked some reviews of x2900XT that had a video, you could just listen to the noise relative to the distance from the camera).
5. No HDDVD / BluRay decoding tests.

This looks like a rushed review at best, waiting for monday for better reviews.

Agreed, some of these scores look too good to be true.

CoH (1920x1200):
8800GT: 116.5 fps
8800GTS: 55.2 fps

huh? .. i know different drivers, but still ...

I need to know what aftermarket cooler will work with this, I have like $500 burning a hole in my bank right now.

Ugh if those Tweaktown noise results are even remotely accurate I'm going to have to wait for a quieter cooling solution before I buy. I mean 73dB at full load? Granted it's measured right next to the cooler but the GTS only hits 65dB at load. Since every 3dB difference means a doubling of power...that would make the GT 10 times as loud as a GTS at load. No thanks. Here's hoping to see what EVGA comes out with.

It's not entirely surpirsing since your going down to a single slot cooler, something has to give. Not to mention the pricing tier of where this item is at, remember the tiny stock 7950 GT cooler?

A 3db difference is a doubling of power, yes, as in twice the input power to achieve 3db more in SPLs...but it's only every 10db of difference that we perceive twice the loudness. So its about 1.8 times louder, which, while not 10 times as loud, is still very damn loud.

I'm pretty sure that a 10dB increase is perceived as a doubling of volume, so the GT would be almost twice as loud as the GTS. That's still a huge jump in volume.

Nevermind, Astralite got to it first.

Pardon me for not reading through the 9 pages of posts, :D , but when do you guys expect to see the 8800GT card to hit our favorite e-shelves? I keep hearing conflicting dates (Oct 29th all the way until Nov 9th).

so this is the card we've been waiting a year for - $250 for decent DX10 performance w/ 512MB. Finally.

edit: oh wait, just saw the noise ratings. Ewww. Well I'm sure someone will release a version with a full-size cooler on it that allows for a bigger fan that's not so loud.

Yeah, was kind of hoping for this, too. I have no problems with a dual slot card, especially if it runs cooler and is more quiet.

schneiderguy and HigherGround Thanks, I will definitely look for them Monday.

The single slot cooler is a deal-breaker for me. The GTS is the first card I've bought where I've actually just left the stock cooling alone, as it's perfectly quiet. Not going back to some whiny shitty cooling solution for a few extra frames, that's for sure. By the time I get an after-market cooling solution, plus paste and shipping for that overpriced piece of metal, that's about $50 added to retail on the GT. And I certainly don't see it as viable for SLI if the air doesn't even get pushed out, not to mention the noise.

Who the hell even uses the PCI slot underneath the PCI-E that they would even need to go single-slot? Just cutting corners I bet.

I'll wait for the retooled GTS.

I have an 8800 GTX w/HR-03 at 645 core 1475 shader 1000 mem.

First option, hold on to it and sell when new flagship becomes availble.

Second option, sell ASAP for $425ish and get an 8800GT. Sell GT when flahship arrives.

I have no reason to sell now and can hold out. If I can still get $300.00 for GTX when new flahship arrives, I'll hold out. I've had GTX since launch.

Opinions?
