I prefer dual slot coolers too for that very reason. I can see where sff builders will be happy with this cooler(although the card looks kinda long to me), but I'd rather have heat exhausted outside the case.

In the end, this looks like my next card. :)

its awful. I have never done it before... and will never do it again... I don't recommend it to anyone.
you know, I could rent you my 1950xt since I have a 7300 gt that would actually pass as a decent stopgap for me. say $50 plus you pay shipping both ways? :)

You're probably right. Especially seeing as though I haven't even gotten my monitor yet.

My 320MB should hold me out until next year.

(Thinks to self: Damn I love upgrading!! I wanna upgrade!!!!!)

Suffer a little to gain as much as possible. Me, I'm stuck with a 640GTS that I won't be able to get over 225 bucks for in about a week. I use the term "stuck" pretty loosely. There are surely worse things I could be stuck with. ;)

Actually this week I have a buyer for my card for $300

Sure, to someone who doesn't yet know about the 8800GT. And I'm sure you won't be telling them about it either. ;)

That's a partial myth. I spent $389 on my 8800gts six months ago. Now I can turn around and sell it for $320 used and buy a 8800GT for $250. :D
You just have to have good timing is all.

i don't believe i *ever* bought a video card for myself that wasn't on sale:p
- i paid $320 for my 2900xt over 5 months with Orange Box included. i bet i can get my *all* money out of it now - if i choose to sell it - and still keep the game bundle.

Actually - if i may digress - what is mindboggling is that i got my 2900xt at Best Buy for $320. Heck, i got a brand new clearanced Samsung 205BW [20" 16x10 LCD] at B&M Staples for $135!!!
-keep your eyes wide open and your credit card ready is the moral of my short & happy story.

:D

and i want to see real benchmarks before i give up my 2900xt for a GT :p
-Do i want 2,000 more points in a synthetic benchmark? If it runs DX10 titles significantly better would be my only concern. My 2900xt is perfect for maxed out DX9 games with 4xAA/16xAF; i will be interested in upgrading when a single card can match that performance in DX10 titles

DAMN! I love these automated translations!
......................................................................................
I know that many people will want to ask this Radeon HD 38x0 referring to the XT or Pro version, but it is a pity that I can not say, mainly because the ATI drivers only "Gang of Health,:D" and therefore the effectiveness and not too good to see.

Now many have received GeForce 8800 GT card, it is said that the current price is 8,880 yuan (512 MB) and 7,880 yuan (256 MB). The Kuanghua Market stores have already filled in on the price quotations, more manufacturers are ready to sell stolen.

But today, I heard an appalling news, and that is G92 is the GeForce 8800 GT, and its chip yields only "5%", and if this matter is true, then rush out GeForce 8800 GT HD counterparts Radeon 3800 series is true.

.....................................................................................

Somehow, I cannot believe this 5% yield to be correct.

Agreed. I don't think Nvidia recorded record profits just to lose money on a chip that isn't even really necessary at the moment.

About that PcOnline-review:

That 8800 GTS 320MB they use is overclocked version. It has 580MHz for core and 1800MHz for memory..thats 12,6% overclock for core and it still manages to lose against 8800 GT 512MB with reference clocks. That OC'd 8800GT has 8,3% more clock speed compared to reference model. So it looks great..

why is everything in % instead of factual numbers that are easy to understand? After a full day of work I'm really not in the mood for math lessons.

I thought the HS series were monsters at 3dM

That's made up because with a slower CPU and memory I can get higher scores than that supposed HD38xx score there.

Is the HD3850 supposed to be faster than the HD2900XT? I thought that was supposed to be HD3870's job?? Dunno at this point.

Looks like a lot of you are dying to upgrade from a GeForce 7900 or Radeon x1950. Me? I did have a GeForce 6800GT 256MB. I say "did" because my computer went kaput a few months ago and I've been waiting until the price is right to build a new system (old one was a S939 Athlon 64 3200+, 2GB RAM, 6800GT). Since then, I've been relying on my laptop: a Celeron M, Intel GMA950 machine, with 1GB RAM. That's right, I'm essentially upgrading from a GMA950! :p

Looks like the 8800GT is exactly what I've been waiting for and ought to last since I play on a 1280x1024 LCD.

Really dumb question here but whats with the PCIe 2.0? I am looking at grabbing this card to replace my 7800GT in December and am curious if it will work in my rig below.

thanks!

If you look at specs there's two things that would make performance difference between these two:
-HD3850 has 8MHz higher core clock frequency
-HD3850 doesn't have that huge membandwith

People are saying that there will be improved AA and optimizations in a tone that it would be fact, but when you look at what they are basing these things..Fudzilla stories and peoples pure speculation.

PCI-E 1 and 2 are compatible both ways meaning that PCI-E 2.0 card will work in PCI-E 1 mother board and vice versa. PCI-E 2.0 16x has double the bandwith compared to old models and 2.0 can push 150W compared to PCI-E 1's 75W.

So PCI-E 2.0 card will work with reduced bandwith on PCI-E 1 motherboard (shouldn't be any performance difference with current generation) and for example 8800 GT will need that extra power connector when using PCI-E 1 motherboard, but in PCI-E 2.0 mobo this ain't required

So what is the slot on a DFI NF4 lanparty? According to the specs the slot is a 16x so that would imply it's a 2.0? Just curious, thanks!
