Unless AMD magically pulls a rabbit out of their hat with the 3800 series, I think I know which card I'm going to ask Mrs Santa to get me for Christmas.

Look at where the HD2900 is now, not far behind. Now, give it the AA performance boost and the rumored better performance across the board and there you have it. Faster than the 8800gt.

Now will it happen? I don't know but from the rumor mil around the net I would bet on yes right now.

plus DX10.1 whether that matters to you.

What are these performance boosts you speak of?

AMD hasn't delivered the last six months, but now they are saying it's going to happen?

I've been basking in Xbox 360 goodness and haven't been payiong attention to video cards. Enlighten me please.

I am debating as to what should I do. Currently, I am using a 7800gt and I am playing on a cardupgrade next month with the coming of game such as Gears of War and Crysis. I am wondering should I:

Buy a 8800gt 512mb for 250 on release day and sell my 7800gt for roughly a bit below 100 and be happy for a while

OR

Wait till new 8800gts and the new ATI card come out and decide which is best and jump the gun depend on the price and sell my 7800gt.

OR

Buy the EVGA 8800gt when it come out and keep my 7800gt as a backup and when January come and new high end come out, use the step up option and use my 7800gt during the 8800 downtime.

Halo 3's campaign is horrible and the multiplayer (besides Forge) is the same old.

I've been playing my 360 on and off for the past month, but if that's the best the 360 can throw out there, I'm getting ready to return to PC gaming "goodness" ;)

Back on topic, I am frankly amazed at how NVIDIA managed to beat the GTS' performance and offer a card at the $250 price point. Good to see some competition reentering the market...

Now, where's my G100... :D

8800GTX has been out for how long now?

Edit: Just looked it up. The 8800GTX was released 11/8/2006. I doubt the 8800GT will be out by 11/8/2007.

actually its due Oct. 29.. less than one week from now

Somehow I'll doubt that theire HD3850 will be much faster than HD2900XT. I mean that HD2900XT has TDP value of 215W when HD3850 has TDP value of 80W. It's already good job now that it looks like HD3850 would be equal to HD2900XT in performance.

Where would that performance boost come from? It's not like they are moving away from shader AA to ROP AA. It's not like they would be increasing amount of processing units. This RV670 is simpler than R600... R600 has over 700M transistors when this new chip has like 35-40 million less. And they are going to include to RV600 this UVD.

So where is this extra boost going to come?

Six month away. Nvidia has already started talking about 3 teraflop monster, but I'd believe you get that result with three 1 teraflop monsters..which still would be impressive for Nvidia.

Well I like it and that's all that matters. I've grown a bit tired of Halo 3 myself and have gone crazy with Nascar '08. Awesome drunken goodness. :)

I tried the COD4 demo on my PC and it ran great, so I am definitely getting excited for Nov. 7

yeah, but in this case you waited 12 months to get 90% of the performance for 1/2 the price.

he 3870 is the current rumor for the higher-end card at 825/2400. the tdp of hd3870 is supposed to be closer to 130W, in fact I think that it has a dual slot cooling solution. Combine that with 55nm and I think that we might be looking at an 8800gtx challenger.

exactly. i'm glad i decided to hold off.

The 8800GTX has been out for almost a year now. It isn't that uncommon for a card with almost the same performance for half the cost to come out a year after a high end flagship card. That being said, it's nice to see NVIDIA moving forward and bringing high performance DX10 cards down to a more affordable level.

thanks for paraphrasing me :D

are these new 8800 GT's on the 65nm die DX 10.1 compliant cards? If not when are they expected?

From what I understand, they are DX10, not 10.1, and that the new AMD cards are.

Im not sure if that actually matters. Can you update to 10.1 through software, or is it only through hardware?

I found this, course it looks like you can find other articles that say its not compliant with dx10. So which is it?

so when are DX 10.1 GFX cards due? Jan - Mar 08? Is it the G98 series?

Hmm..

8800 GT 256MB vs. RV670GT
8800 GT 512MB vs. HD3850
------

I don't think that HD 3870 will fight against current 8800 GTX..it should fight against new 8800 GTS 640MB. 8800 GT 512MB has TDP value of 110W when current 8800 GTS 640MB has TDP value which is 145W..which is 32% higher than GT's. I think that new 8800 GTS 640MB could (would) actually go higher than current 8800 GTX. This would scream for G92-8800 GTX. Some speculate that new 8800 GTX would be overclocked 8800 GTS (Like 7900 GT vs GTX).
-------

Here in Europe 8800 GT 512MB seems to be priced very low; on same level as HD2900 PRO or lower. In USA it seems that $250 will be typical price, but weren't HD3870 supposed to have that $250 price tag there?

Omg I had the chance to pick up the GT today but the dude sold his last one. Canadian pricing = 250$ for the 512mb version. Very nice!

Well if G98 is DX 10.1 GFX then that's joke because..well..for example that new 8400 GS will use 65nm G98 core. It will be cheaper and cooler than G86.

Card that reminds me of GF FX5200LE and it's DX9 support..

Weren't HD2900 PRO's like 300 CAD there?

Yeah, a little under 300 for the 2900Pro. If the 250 price point holds up when they restock, I'll definitely pick one up.

Looks nice.

Makes me feel retarded for spending $620 on an 8800 GTX...
Then again, there's no way i coulda waited this long.

Now where's the new flagship nV card?

I don't want this card; i want something that beats up my GTX.

Power consumption was the main thing I was interested in. This will be my new card, only question is if it goes in my current system, or if I put together a new Penryn based one instead... do I really need another computer, not really, but do I want one...hehe...

That'll be the 65nm version of the GTX. 800/2400. (If they're so inclined to release one that is).

that's why I said that 8800gt would go up against 3870, they are supposed to be priced the same. It's probably not realistic to expect an 8800gtx-beater at $250, but I think that if both 8800gt 512 and 3870 are between 2900xt and 8800gtx performance we'll all be VERY happy.

Hmm, sounds like an overclocked die-shrunk 8800 Ultra to me.
I do hope there's more to it that just faster core/shader/memory frequencies.

I want an absolute beast.
2560x1600 easily rapes the best cards out there today...
Must.
Have.
Better.

:p

(And don't even mention SLI :p)
