Not only that, but we can expect the stock clocked 512MB 8800 GT to hit $200 at the low end. The 256MB part, which won't show up until the end of November, will hit prices below $200

~$200 for stock 512MB GT ... holy mother of God :shocked:

Note there were some performance difference between 320MB and 640MB..and 640MB performed better. These 8800 GT 512MB's are supposed to replace 8800 GTS 320MB (pricewise) not that old 640MB.

From 600/1800
to 730/2000

Don't know how good that is? I mean there's certain difference between in overclockability with early 8800 GTS 640MB and more recent (new revision is better overclocking).

What optimizations will HD3800-series cards have? This 8800 GT 512MB will be priced similarly compared to HD3850 which will be as good as HD2900XT (performance wise) without optimizations

Well it's like:
GT's fps / GTX's fps = 0,82
GT's fps / HD2900XT's fps = 1,245
GT's fps/ GTS's fps =1,1

So you can calculate back those HD2900XT and GTX and GTS results.

Geforce 8800 GT uses 20W less in load compared to GTS, 84W less compared to GTX. Card also runs rather hot on default (idle: 62, load 85)..don't know if that cooler is silent, but lower powerconsumption and G92 running hot could indicate that this one slot solution is silent. Overclocking: It's not in language that I could understand, but they got atleast 730 / 2000 for clocks (1825 for shaders). Their 3dMark06 result dir rise 13% from 12403 -> 14013.

Test system included:
QX6700@3.0GHz (9x333)
Asustek P5E3 Deluxe (X38)
Kingston DDR3-1066
Vista 32-bit

avoid making comments like that, everyone knows there is something better around the corner, but you cant just keep waiting, especially when the wait time is almost 1 year, which is a huge amount of time in technology.

The 8800GTX has been out for almost a year now. It isn't that uncommon for a card with almost the same performance for half the cost to come out a year after a high end flagship card. That being said, it's nice to see NVIDIA moving forward and bringing high performance DX10 cards down to a more affordable level.

Frankly, I would argue the opposite of their opinions...the 8800 series went totally unmatched for 6 months, and remained top contenders for an entire year. It seems before those cards came out, a better deal was always just around the corner. Sure, you now get a bit more performance for $100 less...but early adopters usually get totally screwed.

It looks like the market will finally see a much needed viable option in the low $200 price range.

From what I understand, they are DX10, not 10.1, and that the new AMD cards are.

Im not sure if that actually matters. Can you update to 10.1 through software, or is it only through hardware?

I found this, course it looks like you can find other articles that say its not compliant with dx10. So which is it?

mid range has moved alot in the last year, 7600gt was the mid range back in 2006 i think thats what he is trying to point out
