8600GT & Ultra Info UPDATE: 256bit

the 8600 ultra seems like it would be a good buy. for the 8300...you have to assume they will cripple it in some kind of way.

Lower memory speed and less pipes seems to be crippling enough....

The Ultra branding went ages ago, for this reason I think this is all just a collection of made up thoughts and rumours.

The 7600 was hardly a huge leap from the 6800. It's to be expected.

The article says on page 3:

8600 GT + or - = X1950 Pro ($149)

8600 Ultra + or - = X1950XT ($179)

All this on compact PCB with no power connector. Because of power and physical PCB length limitations, I was thinking I could only add a 7600GT to my system, but this is worth waiting a few months.

A 7600GT is roughly 20~30% faster than a 6800ultra in modern games. (yeah after reading firingsquads review i was surprised!)

Rumour or not, the pic of the 8600ultra does indeed tell me that relase might be sooner then we thought.

edit - it says CMOS on the memory interface (bus). We could be seeing a 192bitbus based on recent trends 😉

Dude are you sure you actually read the review?

After taking a look myself, the results were pretty much as expected... the 7600GT AGP is a hair slower then the 7800GS & while the gap between it & the 6800 Ultra has widened slightly since the last comparison I read, its certainly not twice as fast, more like 20%. Also some of those numbers look a little shaky, especially in Oblivion because I got better performance then they report at the same graphics settings with my old 6800GT in the foilage areas.

And on topic, if these rumors prove to be true its going to hurt ATI a lot more then the 8800GTS/GTX did because right now ATI owns the midrange & that'll be changing in a hurry with an 8600 Ultra.

Yeah, i did read it although i was just pissed that the 7600GT AGP seemed to be raping the 6800GT/ultra so badly. The longer bars confused me i guess. 🙂

20~30% faster than a 6800ultra fixed**

A 7900gt or gtx might be twice as fast as a 6800ultra, but a 7600gt isnt 🙁

edit: oops i posted after he edited 😱

What I find weird about those specs is they list 128MB variants?
There are 512MB X1300/7600GSs floating around...and if they make them, someone is probably buying them.

I was certain this generation would be the death of 128MB cards. People like more VRAM even if it is useless for the GPU in question. Just a thought.

In the original Chinese it's 256bit so OP has been updated accordingly.

Im quite impressed with the "8600 Ultra" specs if true. That will be a great buy at $179.

I also noticed there are small coolers on there, and no molex for power.

Heres hoping for an 80nm 8900GTX.

I wouldn't mind an 8600 Ultra. If it overclocked well, it might be able to reach near 8800GTS 320MB performance.

The picture could be that of the 8600GT.

What a poorly written article.

"I believe that most readers of concern for the GeForce 8800GTX."

😕

"After all, this is what we bought up the chip."

😕

"We can see from the above mentioned parameters, the difference between G83 and G73 was different."

LOL

Dude... its a google.com translation. The site is in chinese. Find me a translator thats 100% accurate 100% of the time, and I'll gladly mail you my leg... God knows I need something like that to pass spanish 😛. Seriously, though, check your facts before you mindlessly attack something.

Yeah, while I was quoting it I noticed it was translated via a computer. I just thought it was funny (especially that last one) so I still posted it anyway.

The 8600 Ultra looks very enticing, especially for the money and dx10 support. Hopefully it comes out in a few months! Will be like night and day from my 6800GT.
