8500 equivelency

According to the game I bought I need a Radeon 8500 or above. What is that equivelent to in GeForce? I only have $100 to spend on a new card.

I have a Radeon right now. No number, when I bought it Radeon's didn't have number. It was a 64MB Radeon VIVO.

Any suggestions?

the Radeon 8500 is just (barely) behind the GF4 ti4200 and quite a bit ahead of the older GF3 (ti500?).

It looks like you have same card i did (before i got my Radeon 8500 then 9800xt) the original Radeon DDR64 (Radeon 7000). . . . a DX7 card . . . about 4+ years old now and pretty slow for modern games.

For a hundred dollars, the best you can do is a 9600p . . . . it has all the functionality of the newest DX9 cards and will do OK on most current games.

9600Pro.... no doubt. For an Nvidia solution i supposed a 5700LE or NU or something but the ATI card will beat it.

That 5200 isn't even faster than a Geforce 2 Ti. That 8500 will massacre it!!!

the reason I asked was because I wanted to see what my options were. From the posts it sounds like my best bet is the 9600 Pro. This is basically to tied me over until I can get an X800 or 6800GT, but I wont have the money til XMAS and I want to play games now.

the 9600p is a decent card and miles ahead of your Radeon 64 DDR VIVO (7000) and will still play the latest games (6x8 or 10x7 Med details; maybe a little less in Doom III) without sacrificing the lighting or other dx9 eyecandy (that you are completely missing now).

keep checking hot deals . . . last night was the first time the 9800p dropped to $150 . . . . perhaps you can find a 9600xt - a bit faster than the 9600pro - for a c-note. 😉

Your other option is to try and get a used 9700p off FS/T . . . just make sure it is from a reliable trader who hasn't o/c'd it (too much). 😉

check the refurbs in newegg, I think they were selling a 9700P for around $125, but if you really don't want to go over $100 there are plenty of 9600P options

the new 4200 linked to is slower that the 8X agp cards cause it uses 444mhz memory vs 512mhz so beware.

Actually his card is a lower clocked version of the 7500. The 7000 is the radeon VE with only 1 pipeline!
7200 is radeon sdr.

The ti4600 is faster than the 9600pro without AA/AF on and only costs $70-80. That should be a great solution. 9600pro is still a good solution if you want to fork out $30 more.

Nope, 7500 = RV200, 64DDR VIVO is R100 (AIW Radeon, Radeon Le, Radeon 32DDR, Radeon 7200 any flavor) 7000 = RV100.

Didn't do it so well at the time though. In fact it got its arse handed to it. Nowadays the drivers have helped it immensly and is more than a match for the Geforces.

jus saw 8500 on bensbargains couple days ago, it was $27

o yea, wha do you want to do with ur card in term of gaming, or you game at all?

if u don game, u better off with the cheapest card like 7000

if u do casual gaming, the 9600 pro will do fine for about $100-130

or find a 9700pro sumwhere for that price
