Dude, are you new to the internet? This card used to sell for $300 when it was first released, and now, even at $85 it's still a waste of money. It's best to stick with the built in gigabit NIC.

Move along. Nothing to see here.

It's useless for everyone.

Not even remotely close. The card is very unique in being able to control many things you can't do with onboard nics. Thus it allows network traffic to be optimized just for gaming. $85 is really not a lot of money considering what this card can do.

Their wireless card is even better. It's one of the few that actually has 2x2 MIMO, and is performs better than most wireless cards. Their wired card is overkill for 95% of the market.

Please go on and list the unique features that optimize the network traffic.

Can't you read? It's a GAMERS card! Adding the term "Gamer" to any product automatically makes it 4x more expensive.

One time I saw a Monster Gamers HDMI cable. It cost $42 million dollars.

Unfortunately the switch you need costs more than your PC.

I'll take two!

But seriously the bigfoot is nothing more than snake oil. If you believe in that shit you probably put slick 50 in your car...
Way back in 94/95 or so I helped spec a LAN for the office (about 20 users). The server ethernet card was in that price range.

Ah, the legendary Killer NIC. IIRC, the main benefit was to reduce CPU load from networking. Mind you, it was marginal at best.

Stuff like this always reminds me of that Fatal1ty crap they were selling a few years back. Zalman was painting their coolers red and charging up the arse for them because they had the dude's name on them. You could get an identical unpainted one for $10-$20 less. I'm glad that style of "modding" died out.

TCP Offload is not completely useless, and that's the main feature of the Killer NIC.

I would never buy one, though.

When I worked for an ISP in the late 90s (dial up) there were monster cards that were a few grand each. Then having a stack of them in the server. Server probably had 20k in network cards alone. Yowsa.
