I am worried about getting kicked out, and not my parents now!

One time I got:

F in history

F in English

D in Creative Writing(elective coarse. Maybe I should do ATOT rant kinda writing :))

A in math

B in chemistry

C in fine art

My parents flipped and I got grounded big time. I'm sure alot of ATOT'ers remember the details. I'm still suffering from it.

An undergraduate is placed on subject to disqualification when their overall or quarterly grade point average drops below 1.5, or when they have been on probation for 2 consecutive quarters.

looks like you will be "placed on subject to disqualification".... whatever that means. you wont be kicked out, otherwise it would say so. Im guessing that if you have below 1.5 for two consecutive quarters then your kicked out.

HUGELY IMPORTANT ADVICE HERE!!!

<<An undergraduate is placed on subject to disqualification when their overall or quarterly grade point average drops below 1.5, or when they have been on probation for 2 consecutive quarters.>>

Your quarterly GPA was 1.29. Sounds like you're kicked out man. Sorry to say it. Make sure you get in touch with the registrar's office on Monday and make absolutely sure you know though. Don't take "I don't know" for an answer. If they don't know, don't let them hang up on you without telling you who does know. If you are kicked out, that re-instatement deal sounds like it's your next best option. Find out how to get that, and don't let them dick you around. Make sure you get a DEFINITE answer by Wednesday at the latest. Definite means either "You are now re-instated." OR "There's no chance in hell you're gonna get re-instated." Don't settle for less as they'll definitely try to screw you over.

If you can't get re-instated, make sure you know the requirements for re-admission, and get on those ASAP. Don't wait. Trust me.

REASONS WHY I KNOW THIS STUFF:

I did two years at UBC. First year, I was in honours science. I did well. B-average (if you don't count my stupid C- in latin, it'd be an A- average). Second year, I did a combined honours in physics and astro. I was also on the rowing team. I also got screwed around with scheduling and couldn't get into my lab class. Basically, I took 4 classes per term, and ended up passing 7 classes, failing ONE math class (which was a special combination of Calc 2 and Calc 3 in one class), and had a 52% average.

Here were the reqs:

1. I can stay in with a 45% average, with two failed classes, but have to have taken 30 credits (remember: I was only in 24 due to schedule dicking around) RESULT: I'm out.

2. I can stay in with less than 30 credits, with one failed class, but have to have a 55% average (I had 52%) RESULT: I'm out.

So basically, had I have gotten a 3% higher average, or even ATTEMPTED the lab class (which I tried to mind you), I could have stayed in. What a freaking piss off.

I tried to get around this by doing a few things:

1. I wrote a letter of appeal to the dean of science. I basically stated that I had tried on numerous occasions to get science advising to let me into that lab class (all the others in my program were already in it), but they just said "come back later." Had I have gotten in, it wouldn't have mattered as to my marks; I'd be in still. I also said that I was on the rowing team and had 25 hrs per week of practice, plus races. They didn't buy it.

2. I then asked the faculty of arts to let me in for next year. They agreed to let me in (actually, they wanted me and wrote me a letter of acceptance signed by the dean). I was going to do a BA in math for a year, then switch back to science. The registrar said that I wasn't allowed though. I had to leave UBC for one full year with my situation. What a piss off.

I then tried to get my reqs for re-admission in order. I went to the local college and when I tried to sign up for my classes, I met some more difficulty. Remember that one class I failed? Calc 2 and 3 in one? Yeah, well I signed up for the college only for 2nd term (their schedule for classes wasn't out yet, and I wanted to keep my summer job through October, and then travel after that). The college only offered calc 2 in first term, and calc 3 in second. They wouldn't let me do calc 3 first, nor would they let me do a guided study of calc 2. Basically, I was fscked for another year (this past year).

What am I doing now? Well, I'm taking a part time 3d animation course at Vancouver Film School, and am saving up for their full 3D animation and digital effects program. It'll land me a sweet job, and I'll be doing something in school I actually find fun. I won't have a degree, but I can always work on that later.

Yes, it was Anthro 1, but not the big big woman. It was the short butch lady.
Listen to her grading policy...
At the end of the quarter, she totals up each students total points, and the student with the most points sets the A.
In my class there was at least one person who aced each test and paper, so that means that 100% is an A.
There was no curve for the class, after the top student, 10% below that is a A-, 10% below that is a B-, 10% below that is a C- and so on.
I am a Political Science and International Relations double major, and I took 17 units last (this) quarter.
Rest assured, I will take less units next quarter, it was just too hard for me.
I intend on calling them first thing on Monday, but I just checked online and it stated that I am still in fine academic standing with no holds on my record.
Maybe that will change on Monday though.

I go to Purdue University. Well, during my freshman year there was someone on my dorm floor who played everquest . . . and that is basically ALL hi did. At Purdue, you cannot be kicked out before going on probatation, which essentially means if you completly screw up, you still have a chance. Anways, as I was saying all this kid did was play everquest, and after his first semester I think he had a GPA of something like 0.5. He went on probation, and failed out after his second semester with something like a 0.7.

How did he get that 0.5? Well, he basically failed every single class except Physics152 (mechanics for engineers/science). That class has recently passed MIT's intro calculus course as the most failed class in the country, and I swear to god the professors take some perverse pleasure in that. It really makes you wonder what he could have done if he had tried :\

Just went online to my student account...
This is what it says...

"You have no Holds which prevent registration.
Your Academic Standing is Subject to Academic Disqual which permits registration.
Your Student Status permits registration."

I am allowed to still register for classes, so that is a very good sign, but it states "subject to academic disqual."

Dude, your full time job is SCHOOL, not some asshat job. Unless you are paying for college, and from your posts you said your parents are, you SHOULD NOT have a full time job unless you know you can pull of easy A's, even then, its not recomended.

thats not true. 2 consecutive quarters on academic probabtion (1.5-2.0 quarter OR cumulative) and your put on subject to dismissal. 2 consecutive quarters being on subject to dissmissal (<1.5 quarter OR cumulative) and your kicked out.
