I will talk to a counselor first thing tomorrow, but I know that there are about ten OT members that go to Davis and I was hoping they could shed some light on the subject.
JOSPHII, I think you are reading it as I am. I don't think I am going to get kicked out, but if I have a repeat of last quarter then I will.
My parents are pretty mellow, my father got kicked out of some ivy league school for partying a little too hard, but he is a very successful business man now.
My mother is a teacher with her masters and she would be let down by this, but not mad. I am the third child, and I know that my brother and sister each failed at least one class so I am not worried now.
I think I will tell them I failed the Anthro class, but not about my subject to dismissal situation.

It means that if this is your first and only time that you are on academic probation you are still a student and no special things have happenned or changed. However if it happens again it says you "may" be subject for good bye bye. Get your act together, you knew these bad grades were coming and put other things on a higher priority.

Oh trust me, my act will be together next quarter.
I agree with your understanding of the school's policies, if I do this again, I'm going bye bye.
If I shape up next quarter, all is fine and dandy.
This is the first time I am on AP, and the last!

Don't push yourself too far. I tried that and all it caused was bad grades. Cut back on the hours you're working. Once I stopped pushing myself too far I did pretty good and graduated with honors.

I would recommend to quit working if you can during the school year and if you have to work, to do 20 hours a week. Also, take like 10 credits or so just to get back on the right track.

Take heart, at least you're not part of the square-root club yet, where the square root of your GPA is higher than the GPA itself.:p

I don't want to be hard on you and you've probably heard it before. But now it's time to buck the f**k up. This isn't high school anymore and I'm glad that you're so worried cause if you get booted out of college it will be a big deal.

My brother was on AP and I know other people who got on it too. Goodluck! Most of them sorted their lives right out after.

Hey Zipp, I just emailed you my response since I just graduated from UCD in December and was in the same situation as you 5 years ago :) Don't stress it too much, it's just AP.

hey, welcome to UCD.. i graduated from there 2 years ago.. class of 2k. though i have never in my life came remotely close to AP, I feel for you. Just allocate more time for school. Sometimes it's hard to study so set a schedule for yourself.. what i did was made school like a full time job.. no matter what my schedule was.. I'd try to get to campus at 8am and leave at about 6pm (unless i had class or officehours late). When I didn't have class, I was in the library studying (at least trying to) or checking out the view ;) . Anyhow, this worked out remarkably for me, office hours is mando important and helps with exams greatly (if u don't have questions, you can just listen to other students ask stuff). I almost never did overnighters like my peers and I also had time to workout in the evenings to stay fit. My worst quarter GPA-wise was the quarter of StarCraft ladder season #1.. wow.. those were the days, ranked #13! I still play SC today but you really need to have no-life to be competitive in the ladder. no more off-subject rambling.. goodluck man..

word of advice, Don't screw up your future with PC games and slacking off. You'll regret it BIG TIME. Just think for a second, would flipping burgers look appealing to you? IF not get your freakin act together and study for your classes. College is peanuts compared to the real world.

Dear Garrett,

A review of your academic record at the end of Spring Quarter has revealed
very poor performance, below the minimum academic standards established by
the faculty. As a result, it is very likely that you will be dismissed
from
the University effective Spring Quarter, 2002.

This early notification is intended to alert you of this impending
dismissal
and to give you an opportunity to meet with a counselor in the Deans'
Office
to discuss your academic performance last quarter. Early notification also
allows you to more rapidly begin pursuing other work or educational
alternatives, including attending Summer Session as is often required to
rectify a poor academic record.

If you believe that your circumstances last quarter warrant an exception to
the academic standards set by the faculty, then it is essential that you
meet with a counselor as soon as possible. If you fail to meet with a
counselor in the very near future then you will be dismissed. Once a
decision on your academic status is made by the Dean, and communicated to
you in a follow-up message, that decision will be final.

The L&S Undergraduate Education and Advising office is located in Room 200,
Social Sciences and Humanities Building. Drop-in advising is available
Monday through Thursday 9 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m., and Friday 10
a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-4 p.m, although it is best to arrive at 9 a.m. or
12:30
p.m. to sign up to be seen. If you do decide to come in to discuss your
academic performance, please inform the staff when you sign up that you are
responding to this e-mail message.

Looks to me like your choices are summer school or looking for a new college.
Rule #1, if you don't think you're going to pass the class, drop it. A withdraw looks far better than a failure.
I'd say you're best off taking this class again this summer and aceing it.

Bleh, I failed like 2 college classes already. :)

Of course, I get no financial support from home and pay everything myself. I had to borrow some to put down the downpayment on my apartment next year, but I paid it back with whatever extra money I had to help out around the house.

Of course, when summer came around, I got a sweet job working with my brother doing pretty much minimum wage work at technician wages. :)

Holy sh1t man, I got under a 1.23 (around there) once, and they just put me on Subject to Academic Disqualification. Well, I was taking courses at UCD through Sac State and those grades woulda brought me to 2.6. Meet with your damn counselor man, at Davis, they pretty much let you stay if you show you care. At least, thats what I hear.

for us if you're under 2.0 you're on AP. you have one chance to prove yourself the next semester and get above a 2.0 or you're screwed and plead them to not drop you.

first semester i was close myself, a 2.0 exact. then i shaped up and got a 3.0, 3.5, and now 3.6, putting me on the dean's list 2 semesters in a row. the last semester i had 19 semester units (28.5 quarter). it wasn't so bad with my parents that my GPA stunk, but i felt like a retard whenever i talked to anyone. guess i got a little carried away when the semester started and didn't know how to handle myself in college.

so just make sure you get your act together and you should be set. one thing though, you should realize you have absolutely ZERO leverage for anything at this point. next time they say you can't go to a party (or know you shouldn't) because it'll effect your grades, look at your transcript before you try and go "oh it's just one night, i'll still get this paper done..." i had tutors to all my classes, including ones i didn't need and was already guaranteed an A in, simply because my parents told me to and i just had to bend over and take it.

grades are all about leverage. with your parents, teachers, potential employers..

edit: wow, looks like you're in the shitter. sign up for as many classes as you can this summer and schedule an appointment. beg for one quarter to prove your worth and work you ass off like you never have before. ace all your summer school classes and they'll probably grant you probation for next quarter, and if you again show them you're up to it they'll let you hang around. ask for scraps- don't ask them to let you stay for fall, just ask for a probation period if you do well this summer.

Am I missing something? I mean you got 4 f's and a C and then decided to not be a full time student...did you think they would be happy about that?

Hey man,

Geez, I remember the gut-twisting, knee-jellying feeling of getting a notice like that. I went through the same thing at UT Austin my freshman year. I begged, pleaded, appealed, made excuses, EVERYTHING. Once they decide you're out, you have to sit out a semester or year or whatever the policy is and then reapply to come back. There were a few people that I knew who had found a small way around the bad grade situation though. It seems that if you go to the school counselor and say you've been depressed or that your family life is screwed or that you're suicidial or SOMETHING to show you're a tad unbalanced, they'll just about excuse anything.

I never did it myself (and wound up having to leave for a year), but the lady I talked to said that if the situation warranted, the school would go as far as doing a cumalative withdrawal of grades for the semester in question (eg, those grades are STRICKEN from your transcript). So, if you've gotten the axe, work on your cry-face, walk into the counselor's office and lie your ass off. Sounds ridiculous, but hey, if it works, you'll still be in school and your transcript that has to get mailed to mom and dad can sorta mysteriously "get lost in the mail."

Good luck.

you failed an anthro class? damn you are a dumbass.

Geez, that is kinda harsh, don't you think? I failed a Anthro class before but have a 3.65 average in all my Electrical Egineering classes I have taken so far (8 total now after last quarter) and a 3.9 average in all my engineering and math classes combined. Anthro is just way boring for some and it is hard to do well in. As for the other grades... don't know what to say there :)

heh, come in with slit marks on your wrists, a death certificate from someone that died in your family that semester, pump yourself full of anti-depressents and bring the prescription, and a note from a psychologist and you're in the clear !
