Well, all of my grades are in, worst report card ever! 🙁
Question is, do I tell my parents that I failed a class?

I'll assume you're in college...

If they're paying and ask, don't lie. If they're not paying and they ask, don't lie unless they'll hate you forever.

Study harder next time. 😛

Yes I'm in college, yes they pay for everything.
It was an Anthropology class from hell. The only class that I wanted to cry in it was so boring.

Do you go on academic probation if your GPA for the quarter is below 2.0, or your cumulative GPA is below a 2.0?

Varies from college to college. Should be on the academic policies website of your school.

It changes from school to school, but many schools say that if you let your GPA drop below 2.0 in one semester OR cumulative, then you go on probation.

Stick to your guns next semester, and good luck.

Well, one class shouldn't put you on probation if the rest of your grades are decent. If your parents ask, don't lie. Just explain to them how difficult (probably shouldn't use "boring") the class was. Hopefully, they'll understand.

hi, i failed a calss this quarter too, worst quarter ever, and i got below a 2.0, which means i'm on academic probation...but what exactly does academic probation mean??

thx

My grades were 2 C's, one D, and one F.
This gives me a quarter GPA of 1.29 :Q.
I am worried about getting kicked out, and not my parents now!

UCD's policies...

What are the criteria for repeating a course?
A student may repeat only courses in which they received a D, F or NP.
What do I do if I have received a notification of dismissal?
You must meet with an academic counselor in the Letters & Science Advising Office to establish a set of conditions (contract) to be met before reinstatement is considered.
What do I do once I have met my contract?
You must return immediately to the L&S Advising Office to confirm that you have satisfied the conditions.
What is academic disqualification?
An undergraduate is placed on subject to disqualification when their overall or quarterly grade point average drops below 1.5, or when they have been on probation for 2 consecutive quarters.
What is academic probation?
An undergraduate is placed on academic probation when their grade point average drops below 2.0, but is higher than 1.5.
What is readmission?
Readmission is used for any student who has been out of UC Davis for one or more regular quarters. The student must apply through the Office of the Registrar at least 8 weeks before the beginning of the quarter s/he plans to return.
What is reinstatement?
Reinstatement is used for a dismissed student who is being allowed to continue on a probation contract. Reinstatement occurs in the same quarter as a dismissal.

I know I feel sick.
Do they kick you out for that?
I've had a full time job since December, it looks like it took its toll! 😱

Well, reading that to me means that I am on academic probation, but not at risk to getting kicked out. Yes I have above a 1.5!
I did not even get a C grade till this year!

Dude, I've seen lower than that! No, it's not mine! 😛 0.7 to be exact!

I'd tell your parents. They are paying, and they might have some advice/help to offer. I'd also seek out a campus advisor to guide you on how to proceed from here.

well it seems to me that they are saying if you have a 1.5 or below, you will be kicked out, otherwise, if you are not above 2.0, you will be put on academic probation.
