Airlink once had a contract with a major OEM computer manufacturer to provide them with wireless adapters for their notebooks. There were issues with the product that caused the deal to fall apart within a year of its signing. This was a few years ago, so the quality of product surely must have improved by now, but Airlink has been off my radar since then and I too would be interested in any current users' opinions of their products.

I sprang for Two, I figured 54Mbps 802.11G for $14.99 no rebates each was worth a shot. I sprang for the 2-Day shipping it $9.05 to 2-Day two cards..

I googled didn't find that much about them other than they use a TI Chipset... No one is raving about them.. But no one is bitching either....


I'll post when I get them.

I got the same stuff about 3 weeks ago from outpost. I got them for my grandfather. For the money I don't think it can be beat. It is alittle pain to setup the router. At least for me it was. He is having a hard time with his lappy being connected to the router. It could be my fault, but it also could be the routers fault. Through the lan ports on the router there has been no problems at all. Only on the wireless side of things. Like I said, it could be me. I am going back tonite to try and fix his lappy wireless accesss again. Hopefully there will be no more problems after tonite.

Yeah, they mentioned something about popups in the text but Firefox took care of them all for me.

I've used Airlink+ products without any problems, the UI is a little plain and their tech support doens't pick up much, but it works okay for me. Definately good for the price!

way before any browsers had popup blockers, i was pop-up free. i used the proxomitron proxy.

nowadays i use privoxy.

these are proxies, so they work anywhere - your email client for example. they not only stop popups and other wacky javascript, they block ad gifs and a whole lot more.

I ordered two card bus cards Wendsday, they were on my door step when I got home. Intalled the drivers in the wife's Laptop (Compaq Presario 906US XP Pro) and the kids laptop (Dell Inspiron 4000 WinMe) , rebooted, setup the MAC's in my router (Netgear WGR614), and pluged them in.

They linked up right away and had a strong signal and 54Mbs right off the bat.

Just for grins I moved them all over the house and compared the signal and Mbps to the internal wireless in my Dell Latitude D600. Signal was identical for all three.

Up until today my wife's laptop had a Linksys WPC54G G card and it never got over 26Mbps anywhere in the house, even in the same room as the router.

All in all I give them a :thumbsup:.. Can't beat them for the money! Thanks OP.

are there advantages as to geting pcmcia card vs the usb2.0 adaptor if the laptop has both ports?
(the usb one can even be use on desktop right?, and therefore more versatile)

For me.. the thinking was... We are a desktop free house.
The USB port is behind a door on the wife's compaq, it flips down so it can't be open when the Laptop is sitting on a flat surface. The kids laptop only has one USB 1.1 port. The PCMCIA Slots pretty much sit empty most of the time. I also figured that it would be a more firm physical connection with the card in the slot and more sturdy. I could see the USB adapter getting bumped, knocked loose, busted, and maybe busting a USB Port.

I have never seen any comparisons between how well a USB or a PCMCIA do signal or throughput wise but they probably are similar.
