God, you got to love what passes for journalism these days.

“The display on the dashboard of their Nissan LEAF showed a drop in available range from 100 miles to about 50, when they had only traveled about 40 miles,” reported the Gannett-owned newspaper, which also owns USA Today, a cheerleader of all “clean” energy projects regardless of viability.

I think they should have pointed out that using the fast charge stations shortens overall battery life.

Car looks ok, it isn't bad, it's just overpriced by $10k I'm afraid. Shave $10k off and it's a contender.

right. buy Honda. teh cars work but they lie about MPG. they are getting sued because the claim that the car gets 50mpg when in reality it gets high 20's. BTW there are a couple class action (and a bunch of small claims) suits about it.

Why does everyone always seem to assume that just because some shyster is willing to file a suit, the suit has merit?

Also, as best I can tell there is one class action and one small claims suit regarding mileage.

Reading up on the small claims suit (the suit which has been getting headlines the last couple of days, mostly from people and news outlets which obviously know nothing about the legal system) reveals that the plaintiff is claiming she didn't understand that the highway number from the EPA testing wasn't applicable in stop-and-go traffic with the A/C on full blast. That simply doesn't pass the laugh test.

A treatment of the small claims case that is actually legally savvy can be found here: http://www.declarationsandexclusions.com/2011/12/lets-get-small.html

Frankly, as long as Honda followed EPA procedure (and there's been no suggestion of this) I don't see how any suit, small claims or otherwise, could fairly resolve any way other than in Honda's favor.

lol I'd sell that POS if it's on third tranny!

That was my recommendation but they chose to replace it (just did the replacement before Christmas). The new transmission has a 50k warranty so they figure it should last past 200k when they want to replace it. That should be in about 2 years. Not sure if it was the wisest choice because they could have put the money from the transmission towards another car but it's what they decided to do.

With that warranty maybe not a bad idea, just sell it at 49k...
