Or, if you don't like paying insanely on car insurance, buy a brick

I just bought a '91 Isuzu Trooper, 150k miles, perfect condition...1500 bucks.

Ugh. Talk about trouble.

BTW, Volvo = Brick
Isuzu = Junk

Any others?

I looked at the 98-99 body style maxima and they are ugly.
The 2000-2003 look MUCH better, but are also more $$ (out of my price range..)

97-98 240sx is a viable option; but I'm worried about finding one that hasn't been driven hard and abused..

Goodluck. Also my ugly maxima has more power than the 240sx you want 🙂 And better seating room! And lower insurance.

2002 Mit. Lancer with not more than 30K on it. These cars have lousy resale value but that is what I would buy again.

Barf.

If you can get a 2002 ANYTHING with less than 30k for $7k then it must be a POS that NOBODY wants.

2.0L ??? does an engine that small get above 60?

My 1.3L does about 155mph, and goes 0-60mph in under 5 seconds.

Hmmm, either a bike or one of those crazy sub-compacts in Europe/Asia. My guess the former🙂

Probably an RX-7. My 600cc bike can do 150 and 0-60 in under 4.

Wasn't there a controversy about how mazda was rating the displacement of the RX8's engine? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was supposedly twice as much as Mazda claimed.....maybe I'm just making this up😛

And what's with all the VW peeps?!

I was actually used car shopping recently as my last car was stolen a few months back. Personally, I was most interested in finding a well maintained and gently used car rather than spending my time looking for one particular model. Anyway, I wound up with this:

97 GTI VR6 Front
97 GTI VR6 Side
97 GTI VR6 Rear
97 GTI VR6 Interior

It's a '97 with ~35k on the clock. Black leather interior, 6 CD changer and power all around. Honestly I would have considered almost any car (well, no Chevy Cavaliers or such) and this was in the best shape I've found in a couple months of looking.

That's pretty nice...

Almost all of my cars have been faster small cars that are uncomfortable to sit in, no climate control, etc. etc.

I'd like something with a little more luxury. A 2000+ maxima se would be ideal (other than fwd) but they are too much $$. I'd consider an infiniti j30, but they are ugly as sin imo and not quite as fast as I'd like.

So, what's something quick, with some luxury? If it's over 7k I'd have to get a loan.

That's about what I paid for a '98 Nissan Altima with 53,000 miles on it. It was a "friend of a friend" sort of deal, so it was less about the specific model and more about the peace of mind knowing someone you trust can vouch for the previous owner (that they had good driving habits, took good care of it).
