EDIT: Get a 760 if you want RWD. Still nice cars and it'll be cheaper😉

We have a 95 850 GLT so if you have questions, let me know, I can help out

I was very very seriously looking at an 850 turbo, but the general consensus is that they are $$$$$ for parts.

If you go 7 series the parts are waiting for you in junk yards. How about a $40 tranny? (Yes, friend and I pulled a 5speed on half-price day. Would have worked great except he didn't quite reassemble it right after pulling off the cover😛)

I'd get a Toyota MR2, supercharged. Fast, INSANE handling, good mileage, small and easy to park, pretty cheap insurance...pretty much the perfect car for me at this point in my life.

Wasn't there a controversy about how mazda was rating the displacement of the RX8's engine? I seem to recall reading somewhere that it was supposedly twice as much as Mazda claimed.....maybe I'm just making this up

Actually, if my memory is correct, the problem was that rotaries started eating up a lot of competition in their class, so the governing bodies started rating rotaries at twice the displacement - thus raising their class, and making piston engines more competitive.

That is a GREAT idea.

Now, finding one in half decent shape might be a problem

Ah, ok. That makes more sense. This is a recent thing, right?

If you want something reasonably new you can get some great deals on used domestics. Take a Chevy Malibu which is one of the few domestics that Edmunds liked. You can get a 2001 model for $7000 quite easily.

The issue I remember was years ago, but for the RX-7. Maybe the same issue is reappearing with the RX-8.

There was, however, a horsepower discrepency with the RX-8 recently. Mazda claimed 247hp I believe, then dropped the rating to 238hp and offered a buyback due to owner complaints.

Maxima, I got my 95 with 28k miles for 10 g's awhile back, With the used car market in the state it is now, I am pretty sure you can get a kick ass deal on maximas. They don't have good resale value so it is benefical to the buyer.
