The GX2 was purchased with the idea in mind that one of the cards would have to be sold, since I simply don't need two cards and these things don't become more valuable with age. When it came down to deciding between the two the factors were IQ, performance, and cost.

IQ: Well, that's what this thread is about, and I think that overall the XTX gets the nod.

Performance: Obvioulsy, the GX2 is a bit faster, but it's not blindingly faster then the XTX.

Cost: Right now if you have $600, you can basically test drive a GX2 and sell it for small loss. The XTX on the otherhand has a lower re-sale value in relation to how much I paid for it, so it would net a bigger loss. Basically, it would "cost" me more to keep the GX2. As a side note to the cost situation: I had originally compared the GX2 to getting the components to complete a Crossfire setup, and in that comparison the GX2 was the clear "value" choice. I still don't think I'm going to pursue the Crossfire option.

Anyhow, I too have a 7900 GS and ATi X1900XTX and may do an image quality comparison of my own when I get back home in a few days.

I would actually like to see someone else post some Oblivion screen caps with a NV card with bloom+AA. I would re-check my own cap to make sure that bloom was on as well, but the GX2 is on a brown truck somewhere to its new home, so that won't be possible. I'd also like to see some comparisons from different games.

I can take a screenshot in 1280 X 768 or 1024 X 768 if you want. I am only using a 7800 GTX though, but I would be happy to post a screenshot of oblivion... From the discussion, I think you took them at 1024 X 768 with 16 X AF and 4X AA + Bloom? Is this correct?

Ok, I took some screenshots and they are in BMP form. Unfortunately, the only software I have to change a BMP to JPG is the terrible MS-Paint program. I can email you the BMP files and if you want, you can convert them. Let me know...

Also, I edited the Oblivion.ini and edited the line to allow screenshots, but it didn't work. I really didn't want to dink around for hours with it, so I used fraps to take the screenshot in BMP form. If someone has a simple explanation why Oblivion isn't taking screenshots for me (or allowing them to be copied into the clipboard) that would be great.

FYI - I edited both the INI's, one within the my documents\my games\oblivion and then also in program files\bethesda\oblivion... So, I think I covered both of my bases, but no luck (also reloaded the game to be sure).

I used Fraps to take all the screenshots except in HL2, I couldn't get Oblivion to work with the .ini edit either. Fraps only lets you save the images in something like .bmp as well, but I converted them by doing a 'save as' in Photoshop and saving them as .jpg. This might alter the quality if you were planning on going to print, but for these purposes it doesn't make a difference. If you don't have Photoshop, check out the GIMP which is one of the absolute best pieces of free software around.

I think your all nuts...the difference between image quality is negligable...they're video games...not porn.

One of the cards used in this comparison costs about $600 retail and there are quite a few people who are willing to spend $1000+ on their video hardware which doesn't even include the cost of the rest of the system. Given that, it doesn't hurt to make some comparisons to make sure you are getting what you want.
